Anybody notice Thomas Streetwiseness? (1 Viewer)

Don't know if streetwiseness is a word, it is now.

Have noticed it a few times now, if the ball goes out for their throw he will still bust a gut to either get the ball or get in the way of somebody trying to get the ball to slow things down.

Seen it a few times now where he seems to be a bit of a "knob". One of those are who great when on your team but you want him sent off if he is against you.

Yep. His work rate and off the ball antics have been great since day 1

We have fell foul of this for years from other teams. Standing in the way of the free kick taker, holding the ball before the away team take a throw in etc but have to admit a few players in our team give it back on the sly which is very welcome. It’s a hard league and you need that steel to win games. Is it Tom Davies who has a kick when no one is looking?

Jones tried to do it last season telling our own fans to take their time giving him the ball back, most of the time they couldn't give it back fast enough though

At the opposite extreme, you get people who are just too helpful.

Saw a junior game once where a player ran about 40 yards to retrieve a ball from some bushes behind the goal, and punted it back to the opposition keeper, who then took the goal kick and the ball was in the back of the net at the other end before the nice lad had even reached the pitch!

You may well be right, but I do know the boy works really hard the whole game, great attitude. He’s a good player, at Southend in the second half, he got round the back twice, the first time he picked out Willis who miskicked, the second time he picked out JCH who took too much time in getting his shot away. I’m looking forward to him scoring his first goal for us.

Being streetwise it getting away with what the referee allows you too .Burge has always been very good at doing it .Slow to collect the ball or if it's thrown by a ball boy letting drop and having to pick it up , switching sides of the goal for goal kicks more often than normal an extra tap on two on the post with his boot always taking a glance up to see if the ref. is watching. All these things waste time when your in a favourable position in the game. I have noticed this season more players seem to be learning a few seconds here and a few there not only takes time off the clock but break up the rhythm of the game.

Something I think we picked up from league two. I was shocked at the start of last season about how long teams took doing everything to slow the game down, remember the Crawley physio slowly walking the whole pitch to treat his man? We've been lacking an edge for years and suffered because of it, it might not be the beautiful game but it works for us. JCH booting the ball away from their drop ball last night was priceless.

On Tuesday he was in the refs face theatrically clapping a couple of decisions that went our way that the Bradford players were incensed about too. When his final 3rd decision making /execution improve he's gonna be a top little player.

I think Thomas is a great asset btw, and if there was any chance of getting him permanently I'd be delighted.
