Team for Oxford (1 Viewer)

Burge
Grimmer Hyam Willis Mason
Thomas Ogogo Doyle Shipley
JCH Chaplin

Straight up 4-4-2 with Chaplin gambling on everything.

We need to take it back to basics and not try and build a team around Andreu / Bayliss.

The only thing that worries me about Allassani is the defensive side if Mason bombs forward. Going forward I would much prefer him but maybe not seen enough of him there.

I've got a really wild idea.....how about play right footed allasani on the right, and left footed Thomas on the left both getting to the by liine getting crosses in the box for JCH and Chaplin???

Grimmer-Willis-Davies-Mason

Doyle-Bayliss-Ogogo

Andreu

JCH-Chaplin

4-3-2-1.

Pack the Midfield out, let the full backs bomb on and allow for let JCH drag the defenders away for Chaplin to get into space. I'd be inclined to drop Andreu, but I think with Chaplin in the team, he can be a lot more creative.

Only problem is fitting in Thomas.

Don't think Grimmer has the fitness for that though, he was blowing out of his arse today.

Both full-backs don't need to bomb on at each attack. That formation simply offers them more freedom. In the first half Grimmer caused problems going forward, albeit nothing came of it.

It also caused us problems when Grimmer was too fucked to get back though too.

That's where having Ogogo and Doyle in the middle works. If Grimmer or Mason bomb on, either one of those two need to drop in.

Old footballing cliche but if fit and available pick your best players in a settled format and build around them, Davies is our best centre half, Ogogo our best centre midfielder, Bayliss our best attacking midfielder, Brown our best left back, when fit Kelly in the position he finished up in last season, jury still out on who our TWO, yes two strikers should be but I suspect it will be Chaplin and with Biamou out injured one of the other 3 strikers. Give them time together, playing together. Simple football logic employed by the best Fergie, Wenger and now Jurgen Klopp,

Yes, about 25 minutes at Wimbledon when he was arguably our best player but admittedly not v Oxford but Mason who has potential but imo is not ready yet and gets exploited down the left as he was again today. Brown is a provern division 2 player.

When was Mason exploited?

Second half imo Rochdale played on him admittedly he got isolated by his teammates in front of him but he’s a kid learning, needs time yet

Going to have a little think but two 0layers who I could guarantee wouldn’t be in it are Bakayoko and Shipley who I thought was dreadful today.

We are too small and too weak in the vital area of midfield, get bullied and this is on a sunny summer afternoon in perfect conditions, when the wet, windy, winter turns up I fear the worst to be honest.

Yet another knock at Bakayoko, how long was he on for 15 minutes and where was he playing ? Certainly wasn’t out and out centre forward. We seriously need to give this guy a break. He might be a flop then again he might come good once there’s a SETTLED team.

BEst signing we’ve made so far for me mate but each to their own.I think he’s been the pick of the bunch tbh.

So what about Junior Brown ? Is he a poor signing ? And if so where does the buck stop for that, will be a high wage earner, longish contract too.

You could say It’s slightly too early to say but from what I’ve seen so far personally he’s well behind mason, defensively & in attack mason assisted JCH goal last week with his cross.

Too gung-ho?
Maybe too lightweight down flanks. Still believe we have some cracking footballers for this league. Keep the faith.

A poor signing then ?
Slightly too early too say but in reply to your comment “brown our best left back” I feel is false only my opinion of course.

In reply to Mason not being ready he’s for me been the best signing of the bunch so far & 100% the most consistent,he’s more than ready he’s fully doing it from the off so far this season.

Offside whenever it went near him but I wouldn’t pick him because I think JCH is a good outlet and looked a bit fitter today

I believe it is the International break so Bayliss, Sterling and Bakayoko are not available.

--------------Burge----------------
Grimmer- Hyam- Willis- Mason
----Ogogo- -------Doyle---------
Allasani---Chapman---Thomas
--------------JCH----------------
Robins likes to play off a physical presence so JCH is a certain with no Max or Baka .
They say tall centre halves don't like nippy forwards and Allasani and Chapman seem to be the most likely to find the target, just hoping Thomas finds his cool.
Attack and put on a show for sky.

Big game looking how poorly Oxford have started and with fixtures that follow. If we don’t win we will likely be near the bottom 10 games in.
