It is exactly the same as when people didn't like Biamou and brought him missing a chance about 6 games ago as a reason to be angry at him. Yet completely ignoring other people missing better chances.

The ratings about today, he was brought on with no real chance to do anything. How's that a shocker?

Shipley has had much worse games, missed much easier chances but nothing said at all.

Very little in it between the ratings of Bakayoko, Allassani and Shipley.
Maybe I was a bit silly to give him a 1, but anyone to come on and either do nothing or be poor at what they do generally get a poor rating. I get he doesn't want the ball in the air, but failing to even bother to jump is so frustrating.

I said in the other thread, Chaplin, who is (one foot!) smaller than Bakayoko, made more of an effort to win the ball in the air.

I'd absolutely love him to turn it around, but there is absolutely nothing to suggest he will. Unlike McNulty, he has no positive feedback from previous clubs. Even Biamou had more to go off from.

You mean like when he jumped and got pushed mid air and didn't get a foul? When he had the ball at his feet he didn't give the ball away I don't think?

It's as if people make things up to be annoyed at him.

Clearly won a header when on the pitch to. Never mind that though

This is the thing that frustrates me about Bakayoko.

He had a borderline disgraceful performance again Blackpool where both manager and supporters were on his back. He also finds himself down the pecking order after a good JCH performance last week and the signing of Chaplin.

Why isn't he, a man of 6'4, busting a gut to win the ball in the air. So far, this is the difference between he and say Biamou. Max was close to receiving similar treatment last season but knuckled down and battled for every ball.

It's still early days, but as I said after the Blackpool game, this is exactly what Walsall fans told us all.

Question for Faz and Nick is, what do you actually think Bakayoko's role is? What is it that you think he'll bring to the team?

Burge :6 - Not much wrong.

Grimmer: 6 - Good first half, should have shot on a couple of opportunities. Not so good in the second.
Hyam: 4.5 lost his man. Very disappointed in him today, has been our best player so far.
Willis: 5 - Won a fair amount, gave it a good go in the second.
Mason: 6 - Not bad. Continuing to improve.

Doyle: 3 - After a great game last week, back to a Blackpool performance by Doyle. He was so poor. Misplaced passes, slowed the game down and failed to rally the players.
Bayliss: 5 - Few decent turns but lacked the cutting edge (AGAIN).
Thomas: 4 - His shooting was appalling. Very similar to Ryan Kent. All the ability in the world but awful end product.
Shipley: 3 - Poor.
Andreu: 3 - Also, very poor. Looks knackered.
JCH: 4 - Another player to make a step down after a good game. Not won as much in the air this week. Missed a handful of headers.

Subs

Bakayoko : 1 - Awful player. Made to look even worse by the long ball.
Chaplin: 5 - Worked hard. Dropped too deep.
Allassani: 3 - Thrown in the deep end.

1 for Bakayoko?! Why have people got it in for him already? And Thomas only 4. I thought he played really well. OK, so he didn't score but at least he got into some good positions. Was today his third ever FL appearance?

Explained above that I accept I was a bit harsh to give him a 1.

Only reason Thomas got a 4 and not as high as a 7 was his missed chances. I actually thought he did well.

Mason probably was my motm too tbf. First half he was excellent really good. Bit of credit to Keith Hill for making the changes that nullified our attacking threat down the flanks.
Mason just shaded it for me for that spell in the first half, thought he had a great half. Second half not much, but still kept trying and more to do with ‘dale’s tactics than his play.

I said it within about 5 minutes of his debut. He needs the ball to his feet, he links up play well usually by laying it off and then making runs.

Against Blackpool even though he was offside about 26 times, 2 of our best counter attacks came from him getting the ball properly and not a hoof.

Problem is though Doyle often has the ball in the middle and all he can do is play high long balls

For balance he was guilty of another criminal offside. Just laziness to not get up with play quick enough. I think he has pace, strength and a good touch and he'll be a potential partner for Chaplin. He needs to put it all together though. I'm not writing him off on what I've seen yet. However I'm not saying he's been great.

Fair enough. Well, we'll see. I'd love for you to be proven right, but I just don't think it will happen.

Because he isn't a target man, he clearly was trying to get the ball everytime it was near him it is just that the defender beat him to it. The defender beat JCH to it a fair few times as well.

He came on against Gillingham after the Blackpool game and did as much as he could, a few nice touches when he had it to feet.

What was he going to do today coming on at that point in the game?

Walsall fans also said he isn't a lone striker or a target man. Your main issue with him so far seems to be him not winning headers.

Against Oxford he was one of our best players in the first half, he was battling for everything, tracking back and pressing their defenders. He took the ball off their defenders a few times and stopped crosses being whipped in.

Proven right about his strengths? I am right, it was obvious his very first game that he really needs the ball to his feet or a height he can control it and do something with it.

We could just keep hoofing it to him and moaning we he doesn't win it though. Allisanni didn't win a single header today or make a pass from what I saw?

Burge - 7
Grimmer - 7
Willis - 7
Hyam - 7
Mason - 7
Doyle - 6
Andreu - 6
Bayliss - 7
Shipley - 6
Thomas - 7
J CH - 6

Really impressed with Mason and Grimmer today (Grimmer after the first 15 mins)

Thomas would have been MOTM if he has shooting boots on.

Burge was also decent.

Bayliss and Doyle were both very poor today, that was where the game was lost. The former looked like he was believing his own hype, took too long on the ball and thought he could make impossible things happened while the latter was being bullied and passing to nobody. Props for Bayliss for air kicking when he had an open goal too.

Walsall fans said a lot more than that. Funnily enough, a lot of what they said hasn't been proven yet. Things like his poor finishing.

Against Gillingham I said he did that one good touch. If he scores 3 on Saturday against Oxford I'll admit I'm wrong.

However, he had a good 15/20 again today and cause very little threat.

I'm not defending the long ball. It pisses me off more than anyone. However, the guy is 6'4 should still do better with it.

Like I said, if he had missed half the chances Shipley had then you would probably be going mental about what Walsall fans said as well. Some of the misses both Shipley, Thomas, Andreu and even JCH today made have been shocking.

He came on today when the game was being killed off by Rochdale, they were slowing it down whenever they could and all we were doing is aimlessly hoofing it.

He was judged before he even played, you are proving you have judged him based on what walsall fans with your 1 when in reality there were others who were worse on the pitch today.

He's not good enough for this level, especially if we want to progress.
In fairness Robins didn't start him in the opening games but there was a clammer from many to do so. We've looked a better side when he's played as he's well disciplined but as has been pointed out a bit limited in speed in a physical and thought sense.

Yet him not winning a header it is obvious he isn't going to win before we kick it and he has nobody near him to pick it up anyway seems to be worse than missing clear cut chances.

I'm not surprised he isn't arsed with some of our fans and the way Robins threw him under the bus to distract from him not having much of a clue against Blackpool.

That's the thing, at the minute we don't have much of an option at LM without chucking somebody really out of position.

Allisanni may do a job but what's he like defensively? In a game like the first half today he would be good but what about when we are under pressure.

Bayliss had caught Madderz syndrome at Blackpool as well, worrying

Shipley was poor today. I said that and will say it whenever he is poor.

I judged Bakayoko based on both his performances for us and from what Walsall fans have said.

I've already explained that I was wrong to give the 1.

Look at what I put in the Gillingham ratings thread. I acknowledged his good bit of play.

It's not a campaign again Bakayoko, is a campaign against his weak performances.

Nick

But he didn't have a weak performance today did he? He did more than Allassanni but there's still beef with him.

I am all for rating people, hammering them when shit and praising them when good but the way he is and will continue to be singled out is shocking.

I’m still gobsmacked we didn’t score one of those chances. The cross for Jch was perfect second half and Thomas could easily have had 2 if not more. Chaplin will be a hero

Burge 6 - did nothing wrong, kicking appears to have improved
Grimmer 7 - really frustrating half from him. Shot when he should’ve crossed and crossed when he should’ve shot. That being said, he was getting into great positions and was a real threat going forward. Glad he’s back in the team.
Willis 6 - fairly solid
Hyam 6 - ditto
Mason 7 - similar to Grimmer, great first half. Faded in the second
Bayliss 5 - out of sorts and out of form. Needs a rest. Not sure what he did today
Doyle 5 - distribution wasn’t great, trademark diagonal balls weren’t coming off
Shipley 5 - did ok. Nothing special
Thomas 7 - a real spark, electrifying pace. Guilty of missing a couple of great opportunities.
JCH 6 - worked hard. Recurring theme, missed a glorious chance for the equaliser

Chaplin 5 - struggled to make an impact, a couple of nice touches. Expect him to start next game
Bakayoko 3 - not changed my opinion on him. Happy to be proved wrong. Someone teach him the offside rule
Allassani 4 - ran around a bit. Hopefully will be given more of a chance in the coming weeks

Thoroughly fucked off we lost to Rochdale (as usual), they were there for the taking in the first half and we blew it. Story of our season. Should’ve beaten, should’ve beaten Gillingham and should’ve beaten these tossers today. So frustrating.
What was his glorious opportunity for an equaliser??

Guy in 15 booed Bakaoyoko before he'd even got on the pitch

Seems like it's the new cool thing to do. It's a bit weird and more worrying than Grendel and Biamou, this seems to have caught on to loads of people who want to be involved.

To be fair about 20 people had a go at him and he stood there looking sheepish for the rest of the game.
