What's all that about? I'd take £10k for a broken nose on the street.
Well that was my thinking. Privately would you receive that?

I know he is under our care, but he's in prison for God's sake.

I obviously i no way support that vile individual but prisons should not be a place where cons mete out justice to other cons. More money needs to be spent on improving the prison system.

This isn’t the issue is it. The issue is if this person should be entitled to substantial league aid and be entitled to compensation.

He is a sub human piece of filth and yet is entitled to human rights.

A rope round the neck is much cheaper and convenient.

As Schmeeee appears to be on the bottle today no doubt he’ll be in here saying this poor chap should not even be in prison and prison is just a form of revenge.

My thoughts after reading the piece and especially this bit: "his teeth were knocked out" are that he'll be someone's love bitch for quite some while. Karma.

It would need a lot of money. Prison Officers aren't paid enough to look after the twats like that.

If I was on 23k - 25k a year and was expected to get in between 2 murderers having a scrap or a nonce getting his face caved in I'd certainly take my time knowing I had a mortgage to pay and couldn't afford to get hurt myself.

No sympathy at all if he has his nose broken and his teeth kicked out whether in prison or walking down the street.

You might wanna listen to the prison officers themselves who have been warning for ages that this type of thing is likely to happen more as they're massively understaffed. Like most public sector workers I doubt they do it for the cash, they'll want an effective prison system more than anything. I wouldn't walk into a burning building for any money, yet we have firemen.

Most likely this happened because they're under resourced not because prison officers don't fancy doing their job.

That's the point I was making, when it's about 4 officers to 60 blokes they are going to be less inclined to jump in the middle of a fight aren't they?

Add to that not enough officers on certain days so the prisoners don't get let out of their cells so the tension rises and rises so it kicks off more.

It's a massively hard moral thing to want to stop a murderer, nonce or child murderer etc etc from getting a pasting. It's the same with police. I'm not saying they stand there and start the fight and egg it on, just in that split second when they are putting themselves in danger by splitting it up (which they are most of the time as the officers are massively outnumbered) they have to make a tough choice. I wouldn't be able to do it.

In 2017-18, a total of 4,957 offenders received "special payments" from HM Prison and Probation Service amounting to more than £10m.

The previous year, £8.7m was paid out to 4,936 offenders.
Ridiculous. Maybe they should have thought about the consequences before committing crimes. If they're scared of being around each other how about we lock them up 24/7.

My thoughts are you can’t all have it both ways. Either prison is a cushy paradise or violent uncontrolled hell. Seems people want their cake and to eat it

When I was inside I can't recall any con receiving pay outs, if you had a scrap you accepted it as part of prison life. The screws back then would have probably laughed at you if you complained anyway, and told you to man up !

It could be a good earner to get yourself sent down and then just keep getting in scraps. Probably a cheaper way to get a new set of teeth as well rather than paying.

I must be old fashioned in my views but if you go to prison its because you did wrong, and so take your punishment and get on with it. If you get your teeth knocked out,go to the prison dentist, that's what it used to be like !

I don’t have your experiences rattles and I do want our penal system to treat inmates humanely BUT I have to say in the environment prisoners have put themselves into through their own misdemeanours it is hardly surprising situations like this crop up. I agree he should see the prison dentist and doctor if required but compensation after what he did....he’s having a laugh and someone else should wipe that grin off his face.

I was in a cell with an Irish bloke who would shout out of the cell window " Up the IRA " I told him to knock it off after three days of listening to it. He threw a punch at me so I punched him back. He was a tough bastard though and he got the better of me by sticking his fingers in my eyes, and I couldn't see properly for hours after. They were actually bleeding !
When a screw opened the door for slop out he took one look at me and said go to the hospital wing. There they just gave me painkillers, and that was it.
Now I would get thousands in compo !
