Russia got off to a good start with a 5-0 win. So a month of football begins, but that means a month of listening to the panels of "experts" on TV channels and on the radio. I reckon by one week we'll be fed up with one or two of them. Who are favourites on here, and who gets on your nerves ? Has anybody noticed Lineker waves his hands about when he talks ? He really waves manically at times, and Ian Wright says " I fink, and I fort, instead of think and thought. So these two will be pissing me off soon. Anymore likes/dislikes ?

On the show I just watched they had Gus Hiddink (hopeless) and Alexi Lalas (very opinionated, but insightful).

I don't like any of the BBC or ITV ones. Cliched old boys club nonsense.
My favourites are the pundits or former pundits on RTE; Liam Brady, Eamonn Dunphy and Johnny Giles

I am hoping that lineker and these other mugs are in a studio in the uk as there is no point in them spending licence payers money by being in Russia

I can't stand Ian Wright, he can barely construct a sentence and often starts making a point and you can see his mind wonder off and he starts making another point.
One of the top moments for me was when Lineker asked Wright for his thoughts on S and M. A horrified Ian Wright spluttered out 'I beg your pardon ???'. To which Lineker smirked & said 'Serbia & Montenegro...' !

Watching Portugal vs Spain. Half-time highlights and summary with Ian Wright, Gus Hiddink and Alexi Lalas.
Alexi gives his opinion, Gus completely disagrees and Ian talks over both of them and is completely incomprehensible.
Ian Wright just talks over anyone else and is very difficult to understand, can't string two coherent thoughts together.
Gus Hiddink says we have predicted everything wrong so far and they should replace us as the panel.

How about having panels of football fans ? No ex players just proper fans who have watched games there etc, bet it will be interesting/lively. Make a change at least.

Robbie from AFTV presents something like that on C4 on Thursday nights.

there is no point with a licence fee full stop, don't know why they don't just call it a tax.

Offer BBC for £10 a month and watch hundreds of thousands not pay it due to not getting the value

The inclusion of women players on panels is senseless political correctness

Can’t disagree with you on this one. It is senseless and it is political correctness...and it’s a waste of time and money.

Although to be fair the majority of panel members to date (male and female) have added nothing to the game. How much do these people get paid to talk either complete drivel or state the blindingly obvious?

I’ve always wondered who chooses them and why has the number got larger three plus a presenter is daft

Ooh contentious and wary of responding.
Are you saying ex or current female players are not qualified to pass comment on the game or simply that male sport or associations should remain the preserve of men?
It's an interesting Cultural conundrum.

Thinking about it the reverse happens ,the managers of the Women’s game are largely male and men are represented on panels for the Women’s game .

It’s a tricky one but they haven’t played the game they’ve played a version of the game, if they had a bloke from non league on their criticising Ronaldo would that be accepted this is the same just not as good a level, Aluko is a joke I saw her play once and she kept falling over the ball and is no better on the tv but without wishing to sound bad she is nearly the perfect hat trick a black woman all she needs is a disability and boom.

We need to get away from all this after match rubbish

The cricket is the same the women say he should have hit it over there if I was on with them I would say go on then show us how to do it with bowlers bowling at least 20mph faster than any woman bowler and with full boundaries. Sarah Taylor one of the best women played at Walmley in the Birmingham league and wasn’t outstanding and that is miles below test cricket where she is outstanding.

I’m saying that professional commentators are employed to commentate so therefore you can be male of female - if you are an expert than you are there to give you expertise on the tournament and be qualified to do so. The women’s premier league is watched by the same number of people on average who watch Chorley Town FC every week. A member of their team will not be on a experts panel.

Remember that classic scene in a Harry Enfield show ?
A large group of people sat round a table and the blokes were talking about something, when a woman interrupted them and made a comment. It went silent as the blokes stared at her, and the woman put her head down and said sorry. Then a voice boomed out " women know your limits ! " Every time I see women on any football programmes I have a chuckle as the Enfield sketch comes to my mind !

The women are no less qualified to comment than some of the non achieving men on panels. That said, it is just political correctness, quota filling.

Bored with most of them already. Roy Keane as good a footballer as he was offers little, he sits there mostly surly and defensive. Hoddle talks to himself when commentating, or that's how he comes across. Ian Wright thinks he's funny,(he's not ) and I don't understand Bilic the ex West Ham manager, what's he on about ? I like Jenas, Murphy, and both Neville brothers, but sorry the rest are tedious. And why do they have 4 crammed in a studio, they just repeat each other !

This is going to piss a lot of you lot off but hey ho forums are about opinions......Now i can honestly say i have never had a decent conversation about football with a female...I'd say over 90% haven't got a clue or are even bothered. But thanks to the PC brigade nearly every tv/radio broadcast they're has to be a female. Now i love the ladies but pleaseeee f off....Us men have to suffer enough with their clothes, food, tv soaps. Leave our footy alone !!!!!

Eni Aluko seems a bit lost but Alex Scott has said more about the actual football than a lot of the pundits, so let's not cry get your tokens out for the lads just yet.

I'm alright with licence payers money sending them all to Red Square, I don't watch or listen to the vast majority of the BBC output so throw as much money as is possible at the stuff I do watch.

Yeah don't mind Alex Scott. Much better than Aluko. The worst is Evra ain't got a clue what he's saying, and when you can understand him it's drivel anyway.

Can we just take a moment to discuss Chris Sutton? What the hell is wrong with that guy?

He's on Radio 5 live and is constantly arguing with his co-commentators. It's quite awkward and at first I thought i might be just a pantomime villain thing, but I actually reckon it's pretty genuine what is happening. He also talks a lot of shit and moans constantly.
