Burge - 8 - Extra mark for that reaction save, couldnt do much for the goal. That throw out to shipley as well.
Grimmer - 6 - Didnt really get into the game until the end when we were going at them, some poor crosses, let them get too many crosses in
Hyam - 8 - Was the more solid of the 2, extra point for that clearance
McDonald - 6 - Seemed to be second best to most things, looked sluggish
Haynes - 5 - He did get forward a lot but no end product, got hammered down the right most of the game
Shipley - 5 - Not the best game, Pipe did him all game
Doyle - 6 - Some sloppy passing, not really in it too much
Bayliss - 6 - Did try and drive us forward a lot but often held onto it for too long and gave it away
Vincenti - 6 - When he got the ball to his feet he was quite tidy, put in a couple of good crosses
McNulty - 5 - Had a bit of a shocker today
JCH - 6 - Battled well

Reid - 7 - Changed the game, wanted to run at them every time
Ponticelli - 5 - It would be harsh to give him less, but did he have a touch
Biamou - 7 - Didnt need to do anything but score

Hyman has been very impressive since he came in.

Fair play to the lad, quality player.

Burge 8 Now I am no Burge fan but Mom for me. Great point blank save, distribution decent and kicking on the whole good.
Grimmer 6 Not his best game.
Hyam 7 Better of the 2 at the back, good in the air and great clearance off the line before our goal.
McDonald 6 Not particularly good or bad, fairly solid beside Hyam albeit unspectacular.
Haynes 5 Couple of bottle jobs again from him and the usual skied crosses into the stand behind on 2 or 3 occasions.
Doyle 6 Not as effective as last week but stuck to the task.
Bayliss 5 Tried to get us going forward more but ran into trouble countless times losing the ball.
Shipley 6 Should have scored with a header in the first half when unmarked and not really effective today.
Vincenti 6 Again not great, couple of misplaced passes and powder puff challenges but won a few in the air.
McNulty 6 Not one of his better days but as usual was working tirelessly chasing lost causes until subbed.
JCH 6 Was the better of the front two.
Subs-
Ponticelli 5 Would have been 4 but did manage to touch the ball once in the 25 or so minutes he was on.
Reid 7 Game changer and gave us the boost and directness with his running when he came on-great ball across for Biamou.
Biamou 7 Came on and scored with first touch-can ask for more than that.

Robins 8 Made the changes neede which payed off.

All in all a good point, we weren’t at our best today and in fairness Newport probably were better but the old adage of if you don’t win the game do not lose the game certainly applied here.

Burge - 8 - Solid. Couldn't stop the goal and that save was genuinely world class. Could of made a mistake anytime being so wet and horrible but he didn't let us down.

Grimmer - 6.5 - He was an outlet but not at his absolute best today.

Hyam - 7 - Clearence was out of this world and he was fairly good throughout, but not particularly outstanding over 90 mins. Solid enough for sure though.

McDonald - 6.5 - Looked alright and coped quite well for the most part. Did alright.

Haynes - 6 - A threat but end product was poor. Is alert and active but one too many misplaced passes.

Shipley - 5.5 - Ineffective and also the delivery was poor. Made Pipe look like Cafu (as did Vincenti) which really pissed me off.

Doyle - 6 - Don't remember him doing too much wrong, but don't think he did too much right either.

Bayliss - 6 - There were flashes of some skill there but the conditions didn't help at all. Was alright.

Vincenti - 5 - Headless for lots of it. Don't agree with the sarcastic applause but he has zero balance and looked weak even in headers which is crazy really. Dissapointing for a lot of it.

McNulty - 7 - Looked the man who could score but didn't have his shooting boots on. Tried hard and didn't do too badly with the support he had.

JCH - 6 - Went missing for bits maybe due to tiredness but one shot with real power in the first half which was quite good.

Subs:

Reid - 6.5 - Should have been brought on at half time.

Ponticelli - 5 - I genuinely didn't see him touch the ball. Again pretty little service to work with though.

Biamou - 7 - Gets a 7 because he scored but wasn't anything crazy good other than that. Vincenti and Shipley made him look very good.

Thoughts:

Should be doing better against teams like this. There were a few players that didn't look up for it enough. We made players who should be in the conference (like Pipe) look decent at this level. If I'm honest we didn't look like a team good for the autos today. Robins needs to react earlier, if it wasn't for our soldiers at the back we could have lost 2 or 3 nil.

Bring on Yeovil!

That’s harsh on Newport. They’re a very good outfit at home, and it’s reflected in three stats; no team in the top 7 has beaten Newport at home (still have Accrington to play at home), they’ve lost 3 games at home all season and they’ve got the most set-piece goals in the league. Considering they barely survived by the skin of their teeth last season, they’ve come along massively.

A draw is a decent result, especially given the circumstances. I’m looking at our fixture list and I don’t really fear anyone now. I think we’ll probably draw at Notts County, but I’m hoping they’re vulnerable after a defeat at Accrington (won 8 of their last home games).

Spot on apart from Bayliss who you scored a 5? Thought he was only player trying to play football. 7 for me.

Mcnulty had a complete shocker 4.
Which is rare.

A mention to Robins for his substitutions spot on taking Mcnukty off. Reid was brilliant.

Well done Max. One chance and in the back of the net.

Burge, Reid, Hyam all outstanding.

Bayliss, Vincenti and McNulty all disappointing today.

Biamou should have come on earlier rather than Ponti who barely touched the ball.

It's not harsh on them. They were very average but we made them look decent by not playing very well.

Considering Burge made a ‘world class’ save, and Hyam made a really good goal line clearance... I think Newport will be thinking we’re very average too.

They’re a solid team at home, and it might not be pretty, but clearly it’s effective.

I really think Ponti needs to be put back into the U23s. Boost his confidence, and let him develop properly. The longer he goes without scoring a league goal, the worse it is for him I think. That probably means bringing Beavon back into the fold — perhaps a good option at this point of the season with his promotion experience.

Stokes has been dreadful. I would rather Haynes unless Stokes can rediscover his old form, and that's not an endorsement of Haynes who has ability but doesn't seem capable of concentrating for longer than 2 or 3 minutes at a time.

I think we’ve seen the best of stokes. I hope I’m wrong but his lack of pace is his downfall and he won’t be getting any quicker now. Still think he could do a job at centre half...but not ahead of what we’ve got there already.
