Geoff Foster, Poor Interviewer....missed a Trick (2 Viewers)

I sympathise a little with our interviewers it seems especially after away matches it is very much same old questions and same old answers. Yesterday the manager came across as very downbeat, crest fallen even and to be fair I didn't expect him to be bouncing about. Right at the end of the interview Foster asked the question as always about recruiting new players and Thorns answer was a very dispondant negative without actually saying no there won't be one. It seemed Thorn was inviting a why not question, what was that Steve Waggott bloke here for then ? what about the promises from Tim Fisher ?, what happened to the Jukiewicz money and/or freed up wages ? but it was just left as a bit of an "oh well" Perhaps Foster & co will follow ti up in the week......I won't hold my breath

Totally agree, the seem to want to keep the ship steady and not ask any questions that would ruffle feathers likewise with telegraph. I still cannot believe that no one is asking any questions since fishers last speech and a response from sisu about us going down in general!

Thorn will only give the answers that dont offend/upset his bosses. If someone came to me at work and asked me what i thought of the guy that paid my wages id probably tell them what i wanted the gaffer to hear!

There is a way of saying things without saying things if you know what I mean.

You can make your point with hints and without actual specifics.

I still think Thorn's final answer was an invitation for more probing questions, whether he would have given straight answers or not is another thing.

Said the same before.

Not a single probing question ever. Words questions so that he puts the words into Andy Thorn's mouth.

He is never quizzed about anything, he could play Dunn and Jordan Clarke up front and they wouldn't ask why? I wish they would let other people have access to speak to them!

Clive, Geoff and Stuart are all known quantities. Someone else might ask questions Thorn and the club would find tricky to answer.

These radio host are poor by my standards. I worked radio for a short while and i could do better!
Be aware though that before any interview takes place a pre-determined line of questions is usually established but it's up to the interviewer to be more probing until rebuffed!

Nice guy by all accounts but a complete amateur when it comes to broadcasting...Never forget him going through to half time not knowing what the correct score was in a game! It's ironic he is a City fan as you wouldn't know it from his lily livered questioning technique! Ask the questions the fans want answered and stop being a crawley bum lick Geoff!

In truth I think thorn is a difficult man to interview. The likes of boothroyd, dowie, Adams, Coleman are far easier. They are full of cliches and boothroyd was often hilarious. Very different with thorn. He lacks charisma and he has no inflection in his voice. It'll get worse as well. Frankly as the representative of the club via the media he is terrible and has made no effort to improve.

Thorn is on a good wage and taking the piss so why should he rock the boat. Lets face it he wont ever get another job at a big club so milk it while you can me ol mate

I remember you saying that before Otis and when I've met him he has always come across as a top bloke. He's in a priveleged position being able to ask the reasoning behind some of Thorn's decisions and I thought to end the interview yesterday without probing Thorn as to why he was so pessimistic about the prospect of loan players was unforgivable.

Come on lads, would we not all love his job. He gets to see the team play for free and has access to the players and Manager. Who amongst us would risk that for one question?

As I just said though he is an interviewers nightmare. He will not elaborate on points he is limited in vocabulary beyond the point of embarrassment. Foster was fine before. They should bring Harrison along for the interviews it's all beyond thorn,

Martin Winch used to do the post match interviews didn't he?

He used to be good.

I agree he must be difficult to interview but my gripe with Foster is he doesn't actually ask the questions in the 1st place. Fine if AT tries to avoid answering but he's got to stop letting him off the hook so easily.

The point of this thread isn't Andy Thorns ability or lack of when interviewed it was Foster missing a chance to ask a searching question. I've replayed the question and in my opinion Thorn left and i think deliberately a chance to question any reasons there might be not to bring in loans despite assurances we would and despite employing someone (Waggott) to help do so.
