Struggling teams tend to appoint him because he's never been relegated. Having said that if I was an Everton fan I'd be massively underwhelmed.
Eddie Howe would have done a good job there I reckon.

Sorry, I should have been clearer....... in the Premier League he has lost more games than hes won.

Sam Allardyce Manager Profile | Premier League

Anyhow......I still don't get it...

.....Everton are a big club that is looking to the future in so many ways with regards new ground, community projects, one of the best academies around & a shed-load of new money to invest.....progressive on so many levels......yet this appointment is anything but....

Edit: For the record, I think they're mad moving away from Goodison.

I was thinking this, the managerial appointments made by West Brom and Everton just show clubs thinking that success is retaining the blessed PL status. Allardyce's standing in he game having won fuck all is ridiculous.

Hmm, see I rate Allardyce. Not his fault that the modern game stops him getting a gig at a big-ish club (Newcastle he was on a hiding to nothing really, and they fell once he left anyway!). In days gone by he'd have been a shoe-in as Arsenal manager...

So, this is his chance to prove me right or wrong on that really, as he finally ends up at a club with moderately decent resources. Assuming Koeman hasn't spunked it all away, anyway!

That being said I agree with Howe. Why has the next big thing lost his fashionable status so quickly? Why are we only allowed to mention Dyche as a young up and coming English manager? Why is there only space for one at a time?

Why do you rate him? His objective seems to be to keep teams up, he did well with Bolton but at immense long term cost to Bolton. He has never came close to winning a cup.

Well, he did reach the final of the League Cup.

The long term cost to Bolton is as much the indictment of present-day football. Their debt was sustainable while he had them progressing, it was falling down that cost them. Now, you could blame the manager, but the manager did exactly what was asked of him. Indeed, at the time Bolton were held up as a template.

Since then, he's been pigeon-holed, for better or worse, as a manager who only gets a chance when a team's in trouble. That doesn't give him much opportunity! Nonetheless, to my mind both Blackburn and West Ham had progressed from where he found them. Sunderland could have maybe been his opportunity to progress too had England not come calling.

Like I said, if he gets the chance to mould a team next season at Everton, we might get a chance to see if he can do that with long term planning. Chances are he'll be shuffled onwards and/or quit however. I'll also grant you there's an argument that he's motivated more by the cash than the desire to fight for honours (and that could have affected his long term staying power) but I'd stick that into the mix rather than it being the sole issue. To my eyes, it's as much impressions and stereotypes as anything else.

Well if Everton maintain their spending in the summer, he has a chance to change that.

How does Moyes keep getting jobs ? He'll take West Ham down !

As I said on another thread, this will be the end of Moyes as football manager, no one will employ him after another failure.

If the Hammers are still in the bottom 3 come mid Jan, they need to get rid of Moyes and appoint someone like Pulis if still available

I rate Allardyce as a manager. You know exactly what you will get from one of his teams. Good appointment for a season and a half, then they can go from there with a clean slate.

With Moyes, I'm not sure hes a bad manager, his win ratio at Man United was solid enough, not sure on his time in spain as I don't follow La Liga. Sunderland are a basket case of a club at the moment and they've been setting up for failure for years before he turned up. Bilic spunked huge sums on Arnautovic. They haven't got a bad squad though and really should be a solid mid prem team. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on their.

My father in law who is a blues fan said it would go this way with the porn barons in charge lack of signings but big promises where has the money from the sale of Upton Park gone?

Jack butland is a better keeper now and should be number 1 but gets injured a lot, I think Southgate will go straight to Pickford because he is young and is extremely experienced at picking the ball out of the net.

For me it would be either Pickford or Heaton (if available)
