Car stolen without using a key

Clever eh?

At least its better than the low-life scum that smash their way into folks houses in the early evening, mob-handed, hooded & tooled up demanding car keys, jewelry & cash with menaces.....

When I bought my first house back in the 90's, it had bars on the windows....
My cars throughout the 90's & early 00's were always protected with a steering lock.....

.....so here we are in 2017 and it appears bars on the windows & steering locks are the way forward......

progress eh!

It is a major flaw if people can just steal cars so easily, contactless / remote things like that are always going to be easily hacked.

I feel much safer with a physical key, for the sake of a second to just put the key in and turn it to start the car rather than the keyless stuff.

A mate of mine recons you can steal any JLR car that has automatic tyre sensors on them very easily. Apparently they can’t put a firewall between the sensors and main computers as it can’t communicate with the sensors if they do. So if you know what to do with a limited amount of software you can open the car and start it without keys and you haven’t even got to get in the car or lift the bonnet to do it. So he says anyway.

Can see insurance companies not paying out if cars are that easy to steal.
They have to pay out. They have no choice if the owner has done nothing wrong.

But watch the premiums go up. They charge you more for no reason. So they will bump them up a lot now.

Just had yet another instance of how they work. The car in my avatar is now a track monster. So I have been looking for a sky blue colour motor for my Cov plate to go on. No boring black, silver or white would do. Can never find them in a car park. Found an old Merc E class in a special order colour. Not the normal rust bucket like they normally are and very low mileage. Did an online quote. Less than £200 for the year with the same company as I have the wifes MG with. Phoned them up to change insurance over as the MG will be parked up over winter. Wanted well over £100 extra for the last 4 and half months. So to change it over would have meant the last 4 and half months would have cost about the same as a new 12 month policy. But £40 quid to cancel the policy. But as I change cars so much I know how they work. Got them to agree that If I took out a new policy with them and then cancel the old policy they would refund the £40 cancellation fee. So paid £197.05 for a new policy and £40 cancellation. Now waiting for a refund cheque of about £150 :smug:

Wireless technology backdoor. Do you need a Wireless-Shielding-Radiation-Anti-theft-Protector? Especially if you have a flash car.

Or do the same as me. Buy an older version for between 2% and 5% of the original price. Pay a bit extra for low mileage and in good condition. You then have cheap reliable luxury motoring at a fraction of the cost and get at least your money back when you sell.

A high percentage of thefts these days are never seen again unless they have a tracker. They are stolen to order. Not worth nicking mine. And the average car thief can't get it. Those that are jealous of nice new car owners (most probably only rent it long term) are not jealous of my old cars so don't vandalize them.

But it doesn't sit well with those who need a newer, better car than everyone else.

Happy to report I'm not in that club.

I got a brand new car last week but what should hopefully help me is that it's a Fiesta so is only of interest to thieves who are planning a very slow getaway with absolutely no pull in fifth gear

Ah Fiesta. Most boys dream was to have one. But you was always left wondering what was on the pages that were missing.
