I dunno if Clarke's intention was to take the free kick or give it to the keeper to take.

But it's a lesson learned for Grimsby, clarke should have left the ball if he wanted the keeper to take it, ref had no choice but to allow the goal.

Btw I don't think the argument that the keeper played on matters, he didn't really have a choice he had to play to the whistle.

He could have tried to do a barthez of all those years ago where he just stood still with his arm up and let di canio score an easy goal
