Have never really seen an issue with the order that penalties are taken. However it seems UEFA and other powers that be have decided to change the way penalty shoot outs are conducted. A new system, known as ABBA, is being trialled in the Asia Cup which a few Prem teams are involved with.

Was it really such an issue the way it was?

I guess it was a big deal for UEFA/FIFA as the first takers to step up would win 60% of the time.
Perhaps now England might just have a chance of winning one, maybe, just maybe!

I didn't have an issue with the current system but what they're saying does make sense. One team is always the second to take a pen so in the pressure position, either score to stay in or score to win.

To be really fair they should take the penalties simultaneously at different ends of the pitch.
Of course that would make TV coverage difficult.

If they wish to make it really fair they should send off any Goalkeeper that attempts to delay the player taking the pen IMO
Like Gazolba use both ends of the pitch also.

It's all nonsense - It's long overdue that any penalty shootout should be conducted with both taker and keeper blindfolded.

Won't be a problem for decent players like...Fernando Torres....

This might encourage less confident players who don't like the pressure kicks to put them hand up in the dressing room when the manager is looking for takers, and say "gaffer, take a chance on me!"

Looks like it will be in the League Cup, EFL Trophy and for all EFL Play Offs

When all is said and done
it won't really matter too much as long as we win!

What about the Silver Goal?

Maybe they ought to go the whole hog and go for the Brown Goal...whichever side has a player who involuntarily poos himself after being on the pitch too long, loses.

He was pretty good at pens, but would be a loser under this system..:
