On a scale from 1-10 - how shit is this speed - I don't really get how it works.

Thanks

your upload speed is pretty poor, I just did one and got 24 down and 5 up so maybe that's not as good as I thought. Is your internet fibre optic?

I wouldn't even put that within a scale. 3.4Mbps would be like minus 5 or 6. Just checked my 4G and I got 56.44Mbps.
I think the UK average is between 15-20mbps so take from that what you will

Even still, without fibre you should still be getting 12-15mbps. What did they offer you when you signed up?

Had a big issue last year with Sky - when they 'fixed it' said we would be on the Sky Unlimited package - offering up to 17mbps - to be honest it's been shit but not really noticed it this bad again until this week.

I think all companies take the piss at times. Last month or so I'm struggling with 4G speed on my mobile. Never had a problem in 7 years but seem to find I have less speeds at times. Spoke to the company who swear they haven't slowed me down.
Have you spoken to any different companies? I've left Sky and BT now and gone with Vodafone. Been installed around 6 months now and so far so good. Customer service could be better mind!

Just spent an hour on phone with Sky - they are fucking useless and their customer service is shocking!! Apparently everything at their end is perfect and they told me my speed test was wrong, even though I did about 10 different ones on various websites... at one point the download speed went down to 0.8mbps. Never encountered such an arrogant company - mind you is it owned by Murdoch...

Have you connected (with an ether net cable) to do the speed test? There can sometimes be a massive difference between wired and wireless speeds. Check what other devices you have connected to it slowing you down. The father in law who lives 5 doors down from me and is also on Vodafone was moaning all the time he had half the speed of mine. So eventually I went and had a look at what was connected. He had an Ipad, a tablet 3 phones, the sky box, the printer, the xbox and the ps4!!

Yeah I put it on a cable and it came out pretty much the same... will look at other devices though!

I have an app with my Vodafone and I click on it and it'll tell me a list of all paired and connected devices. Gives me the speed I'm getting from server to my house and what I'm getting from the WiFi to my device. It's very good for that. Quite acurate too!

You should be on at least 6-7mbps D/load and 2-3 upload on cable. Your ping is p**s poor from Coventry to Coventry(I get less than that when ping testing to Eastern European countries) You will get a guaranteed 35-40 Mbps D/load and 9-10Mbps upload with Sky on Fibre Optic(When available)

It's awful, it could be your wifi though? Have you got a cable you can test with?
I tested it with a cable and even then it was no better. An hour of shouting at Sky and they have sent a replacement router (even though I said the one I have from them is less than a year old)

I had a brand new router from BT a few months ago that turned out to have issues. They replaced it (after needing a lot of convincing) and the replacement works a treat.

pretty reasonable in real terms, you're probably about 4/10 if 10 is as good as it gets in uk residential areas
I usually get 11Meg and I'm on a cheap as chips DSL only (ie not fibre) contract, but then I live within 500m of a local exchange, distance from the exchange is the main issue, then there is also contention (of limited shared resources) which are outside the actual DSL line, so you may find speeds are lower in busy times (generally 6-9pm weekdays).
