Slade (3 Viewers)

What a sorry day, but we've learned nothing new. The fundamental issues still there throughout the side.
A young keeper drops arguably 2 changers, and goals come from it.
Defence still not solid with the incision of clarke who's helped but work still needs doing.
Midfield don't have the fight and creativity.
Strikers are lacking goals weekly baring 2 today.
The fundamental issues still lay deep in this team and have since day one. We've all said it all season, Lack of pace, quality, fight, desire and above all else mental strength.
Wether Slade is or is not the man to be here or not going forward needs addressing ASAP as may will be here fast. This squad needs wiping out, there is not a lot worth keeping but it needs building very very early.
We don't want to be going into July with 5 first team players reporting for duty and no manager in place.
Slade was brought in to firefight it's not happening, the issues lay deeper..... it's almost grained in. Yes he's signed players who's added in areas but it's seems it's not enough to fix the issues, I heard the passion and frustration in him tonight but it's the 11 on the pitch that are not up to it. Any manager would suffer the same fate, young, old... Jose, sir Alex to a rookie... the tools for the job ain't up to it.
If you could find a bright note then any manager at the helm come the summer has a blank canvas to start with and Jesus they need it.
It needs a rebuild top to bottom

It's highlighted now, you're right. There is a lot of kick it long and hope.

Makes it all look worse.

I mean you have players who want to actually play the passing game, and it's not what your being told what to do, demoralising at best

Yep, but my thinking is that Sisu wouldn't do that now at this stage of the season and WOULD go for the cheap option of the likes of Ricketts.
Going for the cheap option every time is what has landed us in this sorry mess. Not convinced that Ricketts is the man for the job at all.

Lets just play the youth academy before they are gone until the rest of the season. We are down, fucked and no hope for next season. The senior pros have done fook all so why not? Maybe then the FA will take note.
You can shove Wembley up your arse and the only Wembley fit for us is the footballs we used to buy from petrol stations with it written on them when we pretended to be Kevin Keegan or Glen Hoddle etc.....
Sad times and time for bed after our great club falls a little lower than we hoped.

The cheap option is retaining Slade.

Got to try and start again next season. Total fresh start, blank page etc. It's the only chance as this lot wouldn't be successful against the likes of Leamington, Rugby or Nuneaton.

Just assuming on the fact that Oggy has done it before and was crap and there isn't really any one else besides the youth coaches.

Wasn't ogrizovic in charge for one game at burnley? Even then in sure he shared with someone else.

I take your point but I think that's one of the underlying issues.
We've too many kids, kids now coming from academies like your lameries's dont have the mental strength, hence why they've likely been let go by there clubs.
Having been pampered in academies no fight in them is a weakness that is not just limited to us but the English game and system.
Our next bout of recruitment needs players that have seen out a contract and a few seasons at league clubs and done a little in there careers and already been bled into first teams.

Just unbelievable we haven't got strikers in start January

That was a huge issue that could not be addressed. Was reported that all we were in for went else where hence why we ended up with Folivi
A major factor in this seasons demise, the league tells you you need goal scorers and your always likely to concede especially with young keepers and weak defence

I was suspicious of Slade's ability to recognize a players ability when he didn't resolve the goalkeepers situation. Either Cook or Burge are capable to play a number of games without a mistake in them. There a liability...possibly weak & pathetic?

It's irritating the life out of many of supporters i speak to. Believe me it's fantastic to play behind an experienced goal keeper who breeds confidence but Slade will not resolve it. This goalkeeper situation has contributed to the mess we are in.

Neither command there boxes, neither are good takers of the ball under pressure and neither have confidence in themselves. Whats the bloody point in them ?

Get rid in the close season who ever the new manager is....please !

Maybe we should go for the record of the most managers in one season. Having said that I agree we should prepare now for next season, and get a settled manager in.

Doubt it is as Slade only contracted to end of the season so no compensation when he leaves. Appointing him on a short term contract is probably the only thing SISU have ever got right.

I meant in terms of replacing him now.

Going for targets that went elsewhere and then settling for plan b....

Heard that somewhere before.

Good evening,
Your pretty much right, I agree but it's also a time when everyone is panic signing players bulking up for a promotion push, much more desirable that a dogfight.
Must admit that?

Ricketts was the cheap option before Slade was brought in.
They haven't gone for the cheapest option every time.
Enough has gone wrong; no need to make it up

Yeah course. But it is same problem mowbray found earlier and he got a lot of shit from from you otis and many others

Whilst summer is a better window than xmass same thing may have happened again now. Imo both issues can be traced back to sisu. We dont have a budget to get in good players anymore.

Beaven and clarke i think are targets he wanted and got. The rest could well be plan bs or make dos.

Now either you've been at the wine or I'm tired... I agree on several points you've made in one post. common ground.
I think the only difference is TM (who you quoted first...) went in search of targets like Turner, Wilson who ultimately went to championship clubs on wages we could not compete with... a little more investment from sisu may if done the trick..
In RS he's gone for a striker that we're aware of who's gone to Portsmouth in league two. So targets were realistic but circumstances not i.e league position and current demise and bad press around the club. Not excuses but all factors into the equation.

Cant argue with that. I have no doubt slade has a team in mind that he wants. And we prob oy 20 or 30% there

However i do not think that excuses a 8 games without a win

Club will continue spiral downwards until we have real change at the top i fear.

Think we should just have done with it now, offer the job to that Rejected Sunderland fella,
How much worse could it be, he's applied at every club so he'd definitely be keen.
He could keep a diary detailing the day to day goings on behind the scenes at the club and
Then get it published, if that doesn't get him a bestseller 'nothing will.:emoji_green_book:

Most of you on this site wanted a manager that new the lower leagues, Well we have one now so don't expect attractive football and no point sacking or changing now, lets see if he can start to get things going, if not then we can change at the end of season.

We're on a roll!!!
No seriously now. I did have high hopes he'd turn things around as his cv suggested. Shit out of luck it seems on that.
And your right I'd only say clarke, foley and Beavon are real Slade players and you could say rawson Reilly and vernam too. Would he of signed them over a summer who knows but he's got them in now.
Ultimately it's not enough or good enough to change our fortunes.
Frailties still lay deep with and we're simply not having any luck seeking using all that in the trophy.
Huff football is what we will need next year tho looking at these league 2 pitches and current state of ours.
I stated earlier on that we need players next year that are not kids....

It's a must, even slades almost stated it tonight in his interview, and we've all stated it all season.

We've gone this season. Barring a miracle we are down. We simply have to focus on how we can possibly get promoted out of League 2 next season. I think the only answer is an entirely new manager and entirely new players. I'd also like entirely new owners but that is probably too much to ask for!
An experienced goalie was needed before anything else and oh no let's sign a load of has beens that have not played all season. SLADE OUT!!!

Disagree. Lameiras wasn't from our academy. Those from our's have more mental strength than the other rubbish in our squad. Willis, Stevenson and DKE in particular and the next crop of the current under 18s are class. What are the 30 plus journeymen Slade has brought in playing for ?

I didn't say he was? He was from Spurs....
Pampered academy players.
We've a few players, DKE for sure bleeds sky blue. Willis, is steady and Stevenson has gone off the boil since Brentford's interest and been injured.
A few we could argue are worth retaining for next season but not a squad needs a balance

Stevenson has started 1 game since Brentford's interest. Willis would be good alongside another good centre half.
