Really gets me people of this 'social media' generation! People don't want to help other people in need these days! They're more likely take their phones out a start filming! Think it came to my attention a few years ago when a pal of mine you may know from the news, Lee Rigby was killed in London! I felt the amount of people there at the time pulled together they could of helped! Instead they filmed it to give 'terrorists' a platform!
Rant over, thank you

This is one of my pet hates too! Bloody social media lives! "Must get this on Facebook! I'll be famous!" Can't be arsed to help anyone!

Completely agree with you both. I don't understand it either myself. I've been in a couple of dodgy situations (nothing like today, Lee Rigby obviously so please don't take this the wrong way) and never thought once about pulling my phone out to film it all.

It's like your woman in America who's boyfriend was shot in the car with her and her child, how is your initial thought "pull out my phone and start filming"?

The murder of Lee Rigby was the greatest act of cowardice ever committed on British soil, not only from the dirty, islamist ,cowards that perpetrated the act, but for the other cowards that stood on the street and watched/filmed it.

I don't think it bugs me just people not helping others but, if some deranged maniac with an AK47 walks into the room that your in and starts mowing people down how is your 1st reaction not 'get the fuck out'? And if you're brave/stupid enough to stay and not run why is your next reaction not to help others! The mind boggles!

No idea how people could stand and watch it.

I know they were armed but somebody could have just taken them out with something round the back of their head and kicked them until they were out of it. I know it's easy to say when not witnessing it, but I can guarantee I wouldn't think "I know, best film it".

If I don't feel like Rocky that day I'd probably just run if I couldn't do anything.

Exactly that nick! I'm not saying everyone should start risking their lives against armed ppl but if you ain't gonna help, your helping even less buy standing by watching/filming! Get the fuck out of there and let the police/army etc do there job! Don't fuel the shitty, 'let's all look at other people's misery' media

Such a tragedy and you've got to feel sympathy for all involved, the people who survived will be traumatised and of course the bereaved relatives. Sadly the political reaction in the states will be to encourage more gun ownership.

You are right, in a newscast last night, they said that if more of the other passengers had been carrying guns they could have stopped him before he killed so many.

Most people either freeze or run, and that is exactly what they did according to the videos. Very few people, except those military trained, would be able to do anything constructive. You are not going to get some brave old lady stabbing him with a hat pin

That's exactly the point I'm trying to make! 1st thought run, if that's not your 1st thought question is, is why?
Because either
a) You've frozen, in which case your shitting a brick. At what moment when you think you're just about to die do you think, I know what's a good idea! I'll get me phone and and record this lovely ending to me holidays!
b) You fancy your chances against this c**t, he's got a pistol, already fired (I'd guess at) 7 or 8 rounds, 2 more and he's gotta change mag, that's my moment!
Still don't get who and why people are filming these sorts of things!!!

Amateur footage can be a huge help in identifying criminals or piecing together am incident, I don't think it's always morbid voyeurism although I'm sure that is part of it for some people too.

Not surprised, it's a phenomenally violent and dehumanised part of the world. Deadly cocktail of oil and religious fervour

Bush and Blair have an awful lot to fucking answer for...each attack over there and in Europe puts even more blood on their hands.

I'm sure there are lots of video cameras recording constantly in all major US airports.

Human psychology not "kids today" I'm afraid.

Two separate effects. The bystander effect which makes people not intervene and the fact that filming something often helps people cope as it's "less real".
