What a mad world we live in. The saddest thing is that events like the shooting in turkey and Switzerland and the Berlin Xmas market no longer shock me. I'm becoming immune to these outrages and that is not good.

Thoughts with all the families.

Unfortunately, I'd say we will see more of these lorry attacks :(

They are much easier to carry out, and much harder to stop, than a bombing or shooting.

Sad for these people and their families, I agree with CCFC92 and it will probably happen here soon.

To be fair, we play dumb and act like we aren't prepared etc.

"But you don't see terrorists being arrested and plots reported in the UK newspapers..."

Exactly.

Absolute coward. That's what angers me the most about these "people". Complete cowards.

Anyone can shoot someone from behind, someone unarmed, blow up a bomb killing unsuspecting people, drive someone down with a vehicle.

They still don't know if the man they arrested is the driver. The passenger in the lorry is dead. The owner of the lorry is Polish in Stettin, and said it was driven by his cousin this morning, but he got a call from his cousin that he was in accute danger this afternoon. The passenger was Polish, but they are not saying what the connection is.

BBC reporting a German paper is saying the driver is Pakistani. Could be a hijack and the original driver was killed before hand.

Meh, #pray4berlin, change Facebook picture, carry blindly on towards disaster.

Shame our kids won't enjoy the relatively civilised western society we did

What's even more of a shame is that some never even got to experience that. The west has been wrapped up in a bubble and ignorant to the suffering in the world.

Don't know why but I have a slightly different view on The Turkish one
More of a political assassination.
It's a very murky world out there, lots of divergent agendas.

Can't imagine what it would be like to get that phone call, so close to Christmas too. (Not that it would be any easier in July).

Not a word on the victims or their families? Just using this to push your poisonous word view which helps contribute to tragedies like this? Terrible
I don't persecute or attack people, Merkel has made a big mistake and put her own people at risk, that's a political cluster fuck that will blow up in her face. Of course I'm gutted for all victims and families of mindless terrorism ! This won't be the last we'll see from her 'refugees' either !

I stayed 2 blocks from this square when in Berlin a few years ago, dreadful at any time of year this kind of thing.

The alleged perpetrator is from that war-zone that is Pakistan.

tragic,disgusting news

but no threads about usa,uk,russia etc bombing middle eastern countries says it all. west only cares about west. we desensitize ourselves to other human beings suffering weirdly, but when one of own is hurt we get angry. if you take a step back it makes no sense.

one mans terrorist is anothers freedom fighter sums it all up

although i can not sympathise with anyone who kills innocent people as revenge.

Much of what happens in the Middle East is Muslim on Muslim { Backed by Western powers of course } but nevertheless .......why all the hatred, largely based on religious claptrap !? Aleppo, Mosul, Yemen, Sudan, Afghanistan all equally appalling I agree !

There is nothing stopping you starting a thread on whichever of these vague 'usa,uk,russia etc bombing of middle eastern countries' stories suits you the most.

suits me? i dont make threads about world affairs full stop

my point is quite simple. the world is messed up, not just when europeons get hurt. be outraged at every atrocity.
