Touche and a very clever response I have to (grudgingly) admit.

So its all Thorns fault that players make bad passes miss open goals.
Or if your refering to subs we don't know what state in terms of fitness the players on the subs bench are in. For all we know there has probably been games that he has felt none of the subs on the bench have really been in a position to play because they have been carrying injuries.

Not just subs though is it. I notice people don't seem to respond to any post re the Blackpool tactics. That was a total disgrace. Thorn obviously did not do his homework as he was completely unaware of a tactic that Blackpool had consistently used for game upon game upon game. That was a schoolboy error. A shocking mistake on his part.

Players left the club and not replaced ok.
King and westwood fine altough westwood has been replaced we were never going to get anyone of any kind of standing at our level of football (division) to replace him. king we would never have been able to replace with the experiance and footballing awareness he had either in this division (we were spoiled and only got him because we were the only ones willing to take him on)
Gunna people were hardly raving about him other than his first season, so feel that this makes little differance to the squad as a whole.
Turner injured for most of the season so he does not really count and before the start of last season people were saying this that and the other about him.
This does not count for the poor state of affairs our team is in regarding the way we are playing ie tactics, players attitude etc.
SBJ no thorn is not responsible for players making mistakes on the pitch etc but as I have said on other posts these highly paid people for the effort they put in can not be sacked (mores the pity), but thorn has to take some of the responsibility for the poor results and in any other situation and at any other club he would have been sacked by now or if not definatly feeling the wrath of the fans but people feel so sorry for him and are quite content with what is being dished up on a saturday because they think relegation is a for gone conclusion, if this is the case why would we want to change anything, from sisu down, and just be happy with losing every game?

as i just said on another thread:

thing is tho boothroyd has all but 3 of these players plus king, gunnar, turner and westy and we were playing far worse stuff and were in freefall under him once the players lost belief in his methods, same can be said of coleman who had an arguarbly better squad than boothroyd and thorn.

thorn proved with aidys players at the end of the season he could get them playing a nice brand of footy that would get its fair share of results, unfortunately he has had the rug pulled from under him but at least the players are still playing for him and doing their best.

i wish people would wake up and smell the coffee, our squad is simply not good enough to survive in this division, its as simple as that.

Thorn has signed 1 outfield player until thursdays loan signing, 1 FFS! 10 players left the club in the summer including our 4 best players which were the spine of our team and they have either not been replaced or have been replaced with inferior players.

WESTWOOD
TURNER
GUNNARSSON
KING

replaced with

MURPHY
CHRISTIE
BIGIRIMANA
MCDONALD

so we replaced Westy with Murphy, ok we were never goona get 1 as good as westy for nowt were we.
we havent replaced Turner so we play Keogh CB with a kid at RB that couldnt even get in to nuneatons team in january.
we havent replaced Gunnar so were having to play kids there.
we replaced King who i think is the best striker in this division with a lad with no championship experience and who struggled in lge 1 with norwich not so long ago as we couldnt afford anyone better.

i know which spine id rather have currently in our team.
Lets not pretend Keogh is playing CB becuae Turner left he was obviously Thorn's first choice CB from the start, playing Christie, Gael and Thomas have largely been tactical choices from Thorn as he has often left senior pro's on the bench.

As has been said before I think Thorn's biggest input was to tell the players to play there natural game, players like Gunnar, King, Clingan thrived under this and players like Mcsheffrey, Bell played well as they were surrounded by quality. We have lost that quality and Thorn has to actually apply his own tactical thoughts here as telling this squad to play there natural game will result in being hammered. Players like Bell, Sheff form has hugely dropped because of the loss of these players but Thorn should at least be keeping us competitive in this league imo.

Thats a STICKY subject and TRIFLEy difficult to answer in the present situation, what with all the HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS of opinons being put about on here, I would not want to slip up on a BANANNA SPLIT only to regret what I said later.

I've worked it out chaps. Most new managers have a honeymoon period of 5-10 games. The old "New Manager Sydrome". Boothroyd had it, Thorn it, they all have it!

Why don't we change the manager every 7 games, fly up the table, get promoted, sign Messi, job done.

What I can't stand is how people talk about AT losing good players as if its the first time this has ever happened. In the whole time I have followed them we have sold our best players and replaced them with inferior quality. We had no right to luxuries like Westwood and King. Any manager here will have to deal with that kind of thing

And yet the original SISU plan was to buy a whole team of them-that way gates go up, the team goes up, and you get the keys to the Prem TV Money treasure chest. Alternatively, you cut, cut, cut until the outgoings you can control are at the bare minimum-but those that are fixed stay just as high. Suddenly, failure on the pitch leads to a massively reduced fanbase. The original plan now becomes literally out of reach, despite the huge wad of cash you claim to have initially invested in it-which, incidentally, you will now never see again.

Think like a L1 club, and that's what you end up being.

You've got SISU on the brain NLHWC :)

Point I was trying to make was that people keep going on about King and Westwood. Players like that will never stay here. We only had King because of his past and Westwood was clearly destined for bigger and better things.

This argument will run on but I think its all pointless anyway. SISU will keep AT on, I think they will leave after January once some Jukey money is forthcoming

Perhaps; but so were Keane, Fox, Dann, etc. Anyone any good leaves eventually, that's how it works when you're a crappy little provincial club. But you never get anywhere unless you buy them when they're unknown. The whole idea was to build a squad of improving players with potential before they reach Premiership standard-obviously, we can't attract them when they are big names. Then they improve together, and voila, you have a Premiership Team!

It's not really much different to what Bobby Gould did, well, every season. Stuart Pearce was too good for us-should we have left him at Wealdstone, then?

Dougie freedman has no managerial experience, and don't think palace have spent much money but they are having a decent season.Just one for the people who are saying we need an experienced manager.Make Carsley the coach to assist thorn and sack harrison he's been here long enough and the tactics from corners, free kicks etc,are to predictable and shite. Why put every player back when defending a corner.I'm sure Harrison deals with this kind of thing and it's useless my under 12s have got more creativity than this bloke.
