Butts not big enough for Speedway (1 Viewer)

Statement from Mr Heaver says several sites have been looked at.

The Butts was explored as an option as the owners expressed an interest in using the venue as a multi-purpose venue. This was eventually ruled out due to restrictions with space.

They also looked at a site at Lyng Hall and Ansty Park and an industrial site in Nuneaton which all failed for various reasons.

Apologies if this is elsewhere.
Not had chance to read everything yet
It's the speedway saying they considered the Butts, however it was ruled out due to restrictions with space

Wouldn't a track have to go round the pitch, if so it would pretty much double the size wouldn't it?

Not the width so much but the bends would add substantially to the length to the points where you could start building stands, if you wanted to build stands that is behind the goals.

Cowdenbeath have a track around their pitch but I don't think they run speedway there just four wheeled stox and rods. Probably because the track essentially has four tight bends which doesn't lend itself to speedway.

I'm just trying to work out what the relevance is to the ccfc forum?

What relevance does it have?

Quite a bit really firstly it shows the Rugby club have been actively looking to get a partnership going. As in we were not the only option. May show a bit of insight to their intent and desire in a positive light.
Secondly it shows that the speedway had an issue with the space at the location.
What that issue with space was we don't know and maybe worth knowing.
Is is simply just the track width and fitting it in. Or is it in other areas, worth knowing really.
Surprised you don't see the relivance

I see no relevance at all. What on earth has it to do us?

There are restrictions with noise as well. There were plans for a dog track before the Rugby Club moved there but it was rejected after objections from neighbours.

There used to be a track at the stadium, I don't know what happened to it?

Yes, I remember running around it as a kid. Probably took up too much space... Don't know when it 'vanished'.

I bet those trying to sell apartments at that retirement village next door to BPA are gutted they can't boast a noisy speedway track won't be coming next door.

Wembley used to lift the corners of the pitch and lay the track on it. Pain in the arse though and not something you'd want to do on a weekly basis. Not so bad if, like at Wembley, it was used more for speedway than football. Wouldn't work the other way round.

You are indeed correct mate. It was a concrete Velodrome. Played at the Butts a few times in Cup finals, and remember coming out of the dressing rooms and slipping down the gradient due to the Nylon studs ;)

How much room is spare around the pitch at the Millenium?
