Pre Season Forum Plans (1 Viewer)

Mentioned it on another thread but it was in Off Topic.

I have planned:

  1. Migrate to a new forum software, think I am going to be using something called Xenforo, it is a lot faster and newer technology than the current platform
  2. It will have a new theme, so will be the same sort of colours but look slightly different (If people are interested, I am thinking about this theme- https://pixelexit.com/demo/?theme=Flat Awesome Plus)
  3. It will be fully responsive, so people using their phones won't have the editing issues. It means the site will just re-size to fit nicely on your phone and tablet without being completely different.
  4. It will run a lot faster than the current site.
  5. I am going to split off the football forum and create a seperate section for the politics / court case threads.
  6. Most important of all, there is going to be a massive cut down on the "beef". Myself included as one of the worst culprits, I am going to look into getting a couple of moderators to help and will try and encourage things to be nipped in the bud earlier when things are going off topic or somebody is kicking off.

Everybody has their views and they are welcome to share them, so hopefully it will be a bit of a "fresh start" where everybody is a bit nicer and hopefully can be more about the football!

Oh and if there are any features and things people would like to see or they can help me with testing then just let me know!

thanks :)

That is the stock template / look. It is still importing data so don't want to make any adjustments yet to how it looks.

It works a lot faster though and nicer on mobiles!

That's good news as I hate Tapatalk.

That's good news as I hate Tapatalk.

That will still work if wanted, but it also has a responsive theme so you can just use it in the browser.

I'm the opposite, much prefer Tapatalk!

Just run a speed test to load both versions, this thread on here is 5.6 seconds, new site is 1.6 seconds :)

Will also have Twitter / google login to make it easier to signup / login!

I could never get Tapatalk to work properly. Tried for ages to put a picture up on here. And could never bring up the pages I wanted as easily as without it.

Ooh, we're all members...

Anyway, as an aside never got the concern if things go off-topic. If they didn't, threads would be two posts long!

The endless Grendel v Tony v SBK is indeed worth nipping in, if notthe bud, the massive great tree it's grown into, however...

Ignore my private message this morning Nick, this will be why I had issues. I think it's because I had SBT saved as a favourite and the link didn't work. I had to search via Google and come in that way.

Oh...and all my likes I've worked hard to accumulate have disappeared. Sh*t job Nick, sh*t job mate.

I am going to see if I can sort that!

Totally agree with the "off topic" point. I've never managed/moderated a forum, so I guess you could get people complaining etc. but I've never really got why people take thread management so seriously. Well, when it's connected to a hobby.

I totally understand if it's a professional forum.

Truth told we'll all eejits with too much time on our hands when city aren't playing!

It is a hard balance, because the moment I move something I get abuse for messing with people's freedom of speech etc. Stuff rarely gets deleted on here, only if it is mega abusive, threatening or potent legally threatening.

Hi Nick! Just like to thank you for your diligence in administering a very well run site. Will I be able to auto sort the threads from newest to oldest to save having to keep scrolling though especially if there is a well responded topic.

Many thanks once again.

P.S. Do you think there is any merit in having a thread that allows the members to score each player after every game regarding their performance which is then displayed as a table after an update of all that weeks results? I know quite a few players come on the site and I think a table without all the insults would give the players food for thought in how the paying public thought they did. Footballers are competitive by nature and a table could/may give them a kick up the backside

I don't think there is a way at the moment but looking into it.

We do have player rating threads after each game :)

Hey Nick, do you know the size limit for image uploads on a thread? I've got some photos of our 1992 leisure wear brochure, but they're around 3mb and I get a message saying the files are too large. Ta.

OK, going to crackdown on the political threads and move them into the other section.

Now, how strict should they be? Is it ANYTHING not football? So ground related, what about academy stuff? What about season ticket stuff? Not football as such but then again not politics...

Just to get people's views so it isn't judged as people too strict ;)

Could you just had a thread that always there running in the main area called "politics, finances, Higgs, Ricoh"
If it starts going down that route throw it in there.
However keep it as one thread in the main area rather than having seperate sub sections
