Those who follow the Cov supporters group on Facebook may have seen a post this morning from Tony McDdonald (say Hi if you're on here, Tone!), with the following insight:

"Player of the Year for me is Armstrong, if you take his goals away we would of dropped 13 points this season and would be 19th sitting 3 points above the relegation zone with the horrendous run-in remaining against some top teams"

And he's right - Arma scored 12 in the first 17 games, but only 7 in the 23 since then. Take his goals away, and our season looks uncomfortably like last season. Our backup strikers have failed - only 6 goals between Fortune, Tudgay, Henderson and Lateef. Murph got 6 but he's dried up too.

Where's our season gone wrong? Relying on a 18/19 year old to bang in 35 goals for us. If he'd been a dud or injured, this season would have been a nightmare.

Not a bad write up, agree with some of the points and disagree with others.

That's a good summation. One area gives rise to my suggestion the other day...Who decides the substitutions or perhaps influences these decisions? Mowbray's ability to alter correctly games I suggest are influenced by none other than Oggy and invariably we get it wrong.

Stu I said this before and you won't believe it clearly. Sat right behind the dugout recently and heard the conversations and I can tell you Oggy was determining the substitutions with a simple nod of approval from TM. Sometimes in life you may think one way but if a guy holding a clipboard of tactics and making a good case can suggest you maybe try this, can be an influence that say TM may not have done otherwise.
Yes Oggy knows his stuff. So do many football managers yet they fall on their swords all too often. If you are going to manage make sure you make the decisions without being influenced...stick to your guns. Recently we have seen poor substitutions (Peterborough) that have been hard to understand from TM?

If Mowbray is letting oggy pick the subs and doesn't agree with them and makes those changes anyway, well in that case he should be sacked asap. The truth is his sub's have been poor all season, evidence for this includes the among of timrs he's baffled everhibr by bringing on fortune to play right wing and that ead when we were flying.

Oggys clip board will have instructions of who's marking who at set pieces and which positions players are expect to take up that's what he's doing when he's talking to them prior to them coming on.

I stopped posting regularly and we started winning, thought best to try and keep it that way :). Plus arguing the toss with City fans brings added stress that I don't need in the final year of my uni degree!

Bollocks. If true Mowbray should be sacked immediately. It's not true.

On the other hand sack oggy

There is an odd few on here who want to sack someone as he's been at the club a long time and therefore seems associated with negativity.

If he is here or not I cannot believe has any bearing on our points tally.

There was a similar discussion around George Curtis when he was commercial manager in the early mid 80's.

It's nonsense. Not one poster here knows if he's doing a good job or bad. He has worked under successive management teams who've retained him.

That suggests something.

I said I think give him 4 weeks after that game didn't i? Can't remember but yes we should have sacked him and tried to re ignite the promotion challenge.

I don't believe Oggy picks subs though.

How do you know it's not true? i was there listening to the conversation and the influence Oggy brought. It was basically Oggy's decision.
I'm not saying he should be sacked. I have said consistently Oggy is the one person we have had at the club throughout our miserable downfall and he holds clear sway at the club as some kind of iconic figurehead it seems. Sometimes people like that have influence beyond their actual authority. And yes if TM has allowed this then he takes blame. I want TM skills to decide things not Oggy.

To be clear, you left the ColU game before the final whistle and stated "Mowbray out" which frankly doesn't square with your comments above.

BBC says 'outside the UK'
Coventry City - Why our season has gone wrong

Maybe its just because we aren't one of the best six teams. We know for certain we aren't one of the the best two teams. We probably could have easily still been in the top six given a few minor corrections along the way, like having an experienced GK and a penalty-specialist.
Many valid points were elucidated in the article but most of them probably apply to every other club in L1. Some of the clubs above us also lost key players due to injuries and transfers and some even lost their managers.

I truly believe our squad was capable of getting to the top 6 as a minimum.

Defensive injuries, TM failure to address the lack of goals (or lack of backup should Aa get injured) and TM incapability of changing games around is the reason for our downfall.

As all teams have injuries I'm not willing to use the defensive fatalities as an excuse. It's all down to TM's planning and lack of tactical nous.

It is the way we play. Mowbray sets up 4 across the back 2 normally Vincelot & Fleck in front of the back line, one out and out striker and the other three behind him. Consequently we play most of the time in our half with little outlet forward wise it's no good, results prove it. Hate to talk Leicester different level I know but watch them they get crosses in all the time with 3/4 in the area to aim at, simple but productive tactic and defences hate it, we rarely put crosses in from open play and never get sufficient bodies in the box. Unless Tony Mowbray changes this tactic we will go nowhere in my opinion.

Out of interest, how many other teams in this division play two defensive midfielders in their side?

Against us none, they don't need to as most of our outfield are camped in our own half. I've not said this before but unless Mowbray changes his tactic then the club needs to look at his position

Im pretty sure from memory teams have been coming to the Ricoh and playing 451, 4141 or 352 really packing the midfield and hitting us on the break or in wide areas.
Many goals against us have come from a set piece, a mistake from someone, from wide areas or 25 yarders.

Games mixed up. I said weeks ago I wanted him sacked.
