A question about Ken (8 Viewers)

I just want to ask this question and see what people think.

Ken was brought in to assess the financial position of the club. He discovered that it was in a mess for various reasons (i know we all knew this, but i doubt we knew to the extent/detail that he discovered) and as a result, my understanding is that he was been tasked with sorting out the finances.

Now, no matter what you think of him, he actually seems to be doing a good job. Remember, he is only as flexible as SISU allow him to be.

I guess i'm playing devils advocate a bit, but is he getting some unfair criticism on here and in general given the pretty difficult job he has? He's made mistakes with regard to communication, and there are obviously some things he is doing which deserve criticism, but with regard to the finances, he seems to be actually doing some good.

Sorry - longer question than i thought it'd be

My problems with Ken are as follows:

1. Handled the discussions with GH very poorly.
2. Communication with the fans is awful - he seems to be avoiding contact with the local media as far as possible - won't do an interview, only answered written questions from the Telegraph.
3. The club seems to be losing senior people on a fairly regular basis. In the absence of any facts to the contrary, we can only assume that this is because of problems and disagreements behind the scenes.
4. Cutting costs is the easiest thing in the world. Cutting costs and leaving a sustainable business that can perform well requires much more skill. There is plenty of evidence of the former, but none of the latter

Its not a difficult job to come into a company and cut staff and budgets if there is no concern for the consequences of those cuts - SISU don't give a damn about the state of the team on the pitch or the fans etc so Ken's job is easy, simply slash and burn and to hell with the consequences.

all he does is lie and is here to line his own pockets and screw the club over for his expenses. he is a leech on the final drops of blood of the club!!!

Do you know what I can't stand - calling him things such as orange ken and tango man, as if turning into a 9 year old gives us the moral high ground!

Don't like him, but it's not personal, it's just that he's the face and voice of the owners at the moment and, in my opinion, they're not doing a great job!

I could walk into a company and cut everything including costs. I would simply lay some people off, use cheaper materials etc but at the end of the day I wouldn't make as much money because I wouldn't have the staff or the resources....

It is the same thing!

The man is a parasite!!!

When all the other directors/ CEO's are seeming to be giving Coventry a wide birth and leaving the club, he is sticking around and ruining a once proud club.

If he was serious about doing the 20 jobs he has at the club, he should move local and save the club he is now a fan of some money.

Or if he had a single ounce of decency and self respect, then he would walk away from the mess that he and SISU have caused.

If he did this, I may start to have the smallest bit of respect for him back in reply...

Yep - cutting costs is easy, but making it work after you've done it is bloody hard. I gather people are quietly impressed with his handling of the finances even if they're not sure about everything else about him.

His communication is abysmal though. Sometimes i think its not what you say but what you don't say - and he isn't saying anything! He hasn't exactly endeared himself to the fans like he could have done.

I'm not impressed by anything he has done at this club.

If SISU want him and his board to be puppets, he should be on sisu's payroll and not ours. Surely that would free up £500k - £1m a year in salaries and expenses

Not in the slight bit impressed with anything he's done. I'm not quite sure where you're getting this bizarre impression that people think he's doing a good job in any of his capacities. I think there's 3 or 4 on here that support him and I find it hard to read what they're saying without assuming they're WUMing or simply one of his minions. Just what has he achieved? He is a SISU puppet with a shocking CV that he's adding to with some aplomb by killing off our club. If I was to ever meet the man face-to-face, I would not be accountable for my actions!

Take away the outlying extremes of what reads here as a very cogent debate and you are describing a manager tasked with a severe cost reduction challenge and a tough task for anyone. Yes, he as anyone else would is struggling with communications on the strategy in the circumstances ( what do you want him to say? Look at Bill Kenwright etc ) but that was covered in the strategy by having the new media skills of @lbrody to hand... and look how that worked out - really is that Ken's fault? John Clark is a local guy in PR I'm amazed he isn't swinging into action more, maybe he is and Brodys departure ushers more of that... I was wondering who was in the Sky Blue Sam outfit in the Precinct!

I have no time for him at all. Look what he did to Southampton, he almost bought the club to it's knees. They were only saved from the dreaded SISU at the last minute. Cost cutting is relatively easy to achieve, just sell your assets and forget the consequences. He has no affinity with the club at all and treats it as a commodity and the fans as expendable fools. In the long history of the club he has to be the worst chairman in my memory and I even include Richardson in that. At least there were some good times then on the pitch to go with the apparant dishonesty off it.

He obviously has a big fat bonus coming to him if he can turn the finances around which is understandable, but not at the expense of what this club is all about. The team on the pitch!!!

I am not impressed with a single thing he has done at CCFC and neither were Southamton fans To Quote.......

In his own words, Dulieu "had been brought in to look after the plc part of the Club" when he arrived at Southampton - at a time when spending needed to be cut, in less than 2 years he helped take the club from 2 execs to 5 execs on higher salaries, with turnover halved the wage bill was increased, and with parachute payments ending a £5m overdraft was taken out... all of which led to administration.

I suppose you could look at this in one of two ways. On the one hand these people have shown themselves to be unscrupulous, untrustworthy money-grabbers you'd not want within 100 miles of your company. Then again, they are no doubt very adept at charging and billing. But overall, if these people are supposed to be business recovery specialists, I think they have a rather poor track record. FWIW, I wouldn't touch them with someone else's bargepole.

Certainly looks like a repeat performance from Deleiu

as already highlighted by our knowledgeable forum posters,
or should it be lowlighted, in the case of 'kd',
-
'kingharvest' you only have to read about 'kd' & 'his involvement in southampton,
if you are still wondering, put a question to the soton fans on their forum,
just a guess, but on a popularity rating ? i reckon 0/10 ?
