You only have to look at clubs like Cardiff too, threw money at the problem to get to the promised land but just didn't work and look at the state of them

He's probably right. If you were starting from scratch you'd never dream of having so many professional clubs.

It wasn't planned, they grew organically. The population of Britain has grown, but the proportion attending football matches hasn't, for various reasons, a lot of it associated with Sky and its different affects on the game.
