Coaching or lack of it was shown to be weak today... (1 Viewer)

I've said before and will repeat it again after today our defenders and our goalkeeper must take a lot of the blame for those goals.
Oggy is a hero but he coaches the goalkeeper?
Harrison coaches the squad?

Is it sinking in yet?

We were shit before Harrison came in, we will be shit when Harrison leaves. When Mcallister was boss and Black was assisstant/coach we were shit, did this make Black a bad coach? No.
I guess that is why Westwood was shit because he had Oggy as coach?

And look how well Westwood did...oh and Quirke before being released.....Dunn's excellent save....?

Murphy was never a top notch keeper. Semi-decent, and that's how he performs. He's improved a little this season too. Still incredibly dodgy but ever so slightly better than before. He's also 30 so has peaked. Bit difficult making someone that old better, they're stuck in their ways. It's Dunn I'm looking at, we'll see how he gets on.

I personally think Ogrizovic has done a good job coaching our keepers.

Seems to be the blame absolutely anyone and everyone involved with Coventry period at the moment. Who next? Sky Blue Sam?! That damn elephant costing us games...

The defending at times was comical, Lambert could of had a hattick just from free headers. Keogh at times was trying to play the ball out of defence and there was a player on him, he got very lucky as he could of easily slipped and let one of their players in, he was also lucky to get that free kick when he was closed down by fox & lambert. The midfield doesn't help by going hiding and offering little support to their back line, If we are to stay up this season we need at least 8 new players in at January.

Yeah I thought I would come across some post that slags Murphy off. Check the stats - until Millwall our goals against record was better than when Westwood was in goal (still is). Dunn? Do me a favour - did you see him pre-season? I saw him a couple of times at Northampton - don't go there. He is as good a keeper as McDonald is stiker - get of Murphy's back.

Bit harsh on Dunn-he has played well in L1, Cody only in L2!

Cody's positioning today really did remind me that he was a non-league player not long ago. What worries me is that former non-leaguers usually know that this is a chance to be grasped and show some fight and appetite. Cody just looks like he has an appetite for pies.

Agreed that Murphy has been OK in recent games, but he was abysmal at commanding his area today and at fault for the 4th goal. He'd probably be behind about 7 or 8 other starting players for me today in the criticism queue, though.

I was making a point that I think the forward positions are more of a problem that the goalkeeping position and that until today Murphy was OK - today he was poor.

McDonald is far more concerning. Given that he has been given an opportunity at a higher level I expect hime to show a greater appetite for the game - as you imply he seems to show more appetite for eating. perhaps he should be nicknamed Ronald.

I am very anti Eastwood but given the state of the squad I cannot see why he cannot be at least a substitute - we are still paying his wages after all.

On the subject of Eastwood just heard a Southend fan on 606 say the last time he cried was when Freddy Eastwood left

What we dont do is defend or attack as a team. I am not surprised our defence makes mistakes they have precious little infront of them as cover. First half our midfield was non existent with exception of Thomas who did the simple things well and looked interested.

The keeper and back four did make mistakes but I was always taught we defend from the front as soon as we lost the ball. I lost count the number of times that Christie was left to defend against 2 Saints players because McSheffery didnt get back to help.

So lets be clear defending is not about the keeper and the back four it is about the team. The biggest disappointment is that more senior or experienced players do not feel that they have to contribute in that aspect of our performance.

I do think that Christie got a lot more protection as a result of the switch to 442. I think we may as well give it a go henceforth as we are running out of decent CM performers; Sammy looked much better when higher up the pitch, we've got Gael to come back who could play in the middle of a 442, and the switch in formation would at least wrong-foot all the sides who "know how we play" and are set-up to counter our lack of width.

We're not loaded with wingers, but would have to perm 2 from Baker, Bell and McSheffrey with perhaps Connor capable of doing a job on the right.

Mcsheffrey was dire - sad as his is a nice story being born near Highfield Road but he really is a passenger now. He used to have pace and a great eye for goal but this has all gone.

All that does is disguise the fact he's a dodgy keeper that can't seem to catch. I've never known anything like it. He seems to think he's Spanish and therefore has to punch and tip the ball away. It's a pretty common joke in the blocks around me that he gets a cheer every time he catches a ball...which means there's maybe 1 cheer per game. He's always fast to blame everyone around him on the pitch and personally I think it's his outbursts that partly ruined Hussey's confidence.

As I said, he's semi-decent, but there are plenty better around. He's inconsistent and nothing in comparison to Westwood. :thinking about:

Have to agree with that, my mate went to the sunderland game today (he supports them) and he said he was class, made an amazing double save today apparently. We were ruined having Westwood.

Yeah you are dead right - reason we are where we are is nothing to do with the fact our second top gaolscorer this season has (drum roll) ONE goal and that our goals against until this week was as good as teams in the top six. Sorry for my mistake if Westwood was here we would be in the top 6 as we were when he was here.

One man doesn't make a team, no one is saying it is Murphy's fault we are where we are or that Westwood would mean we would be loads better.
Murphy is average at this level where as Westwood was the best in the division imo.

Because he made no difference to any eventual result - if he was here no difference would be made. That said I apologise. It was more in response to Gouldberg and his nonsense remarkes - aren't the best goalkeepers in the world Spanish?

We're poor at both ends of the pitch. Just because we don't concede loads doesn't mean we have a great keeper. He's painfully inconsistent and doesn't seem to know how to catch which is a fundamental problem. How many times has Murphy parried or pushed balls away back into the firing line? How many of the goals that we've conceded has he been at fault for? I'm almost certain it's been at least 4. We've chalked up only 3 clean sheets thus far and in 2 of those Murphy went off injured. In the last 2 games he's conceded 7 goals. There are PLENTY of other keepers that are in this division (and some in lower divisions) that I would rather have. How anyone can deny that he's clumsy, doesn't catch when he should and is inconsistent is beyond me.
