Before my time, but arguably the best CCFC team to watch, too, given the way the team was set up with proper wingers and all that.

And at a time when English football was all about narrow play and kicking people up in the air.

Yes, some of the football in 77/78 was exhilarating. Some great games - Man City 4-2, Chelsea 5-1, Wolves 4-0, QPR 4-1, Birmingham 4-0 and of course Norwich 5-4 (which wasn't on bloody Boxing Day!!!).

William Clayton from stats. Slade, Thorn and Boothroyd were garbage in my eyes.

The Cayman Islands.
Gould spent a quarter of a million (a lot then) on Ashley Grimes. He also invested in the wizard of the drivel Peter Barnes.

Milne at one point broke the UK transfer record for a defender when signing Larry Lloyd.
Every manager signs shit players at times , Alex Ferguson , Arsene Wenger just to name two .

I'm not having a dig at him, we played some great football under Milne, I was just pointing out that he spent big money on 2 players we managed to get about a dozen appearances out of in total. He used to piss off a Leicester supporting friend because I am sure he swapped Tommy English for Jim Melrose, that's good enough for me
Even Alex Ferguson had his embarrassing signings...
Bebe
Djemba-Djemba
Kleberson
McGibbon
Taibi

And a fair few others besides. We only focus on our bad signings because there has been a lack of success obscuring them!

Strachan for me has to be the worst. Very likeable charismatic bloke & was a great player.
Sadly, everywhere he has gone he has spent shit loads & left the club in disarray. Us, Saints, 'boro & Celtic all suffered majorly either with him &/or from his legacy.
He took us down & even to the depths of the Championship...when he left there was no money & not enough talent coming through in the ranks either

Nope. I've slept on it and I'm adamant that Russel Slade is the worst manager of all time. His garbage football was the worst thing to come to Coventry since the Nazis!

Reid - the worst manager at the worst time. Still think now that we could have done something special that following season before that clown McGinnity fucked it up..

I can't see past Strachan as the worst personally. Effectively relegated twice under him.

Yep I'm surprised that no one had nominated "big (spending) Ron" until you did.
Indeed! Spent money on Telfer to boot!

Good managers.
Hill
Milne
Sillett
Sexton
Gould
Nilsson
Black

Debatable- Strachan

The bad ones is just too large a list, a special mention though for Don Mackay and Peter Reid.

Dowie was really good...:cigar:

Terrible. A few good/unbelievable wins here and there but a lot of the performances under him were almost as bad as what we saw under Slade.

I still think Slade is the worst we've had since our relegation. 1 point adrift when he came in, 14 points from safety by the time he was sacked (for the third time in 12 months!).

From my perspective the worst managers have to be:
Slade
Reid
Bothroyd
Butcher

All of them brought neanderthal level of football to the club

The best Jimmy Hill, Gordon Milne, Sexton, Sillett & Black

In contract the best were intelligent managers.

I always thought Black was overrated. He had Joachim fit for the first time in his Ccfc career who made the team tick and was above everyone else. Bit like Clark and Wilson papering over the cracks for Pressley.

Totally agree. Still classed as the messiah for such a short period of time. Done nowt since for a genius of a manager

Black had us playing good football almost free flowing, I admit a bit suspect defensively but from my angle I have always believed that with a bit of investment and a decent number 2 he could have got us promoted.

Meaning we would have gone to the Ricoh with all the pearls and beads of the premiership and SISU would have bought Southampton or even better Leicester. The Peter Reid legacy.

Slade,Reid,Adams and even Dowie had success before arriving here. Mmmmmm, there's a pattern emerging.

I don't think there's anyway you can put Adams in the same category of wankers like Slade, Reid and Dowie.

Adams came in and kept us up after Reid had left us in the Championship relegation zone. Next season he took us to an 8th placed finish in the Championship. Following season he left after an average start and the sale of McSheffrey.

Slade, Reid and Dowie did their best to relelgate us, with Slade achieving this in a matter of weeks!
