Hope you are right but. At 35 another season is a lot harder. Hence why you don't see many central midfielders still playing at 35/36
You do see some at 34/35 but not that many. Fingers crossed you are right but I would like another player if that ilk as well to share the burden.

I'm afraid I was never a fan of Doyle the first time round, and we obviously had his best years here. So I really don't think signing a 36-year-old is the way forward. Portsmouth clearly had a decent team around him, which can sometimes be ideal for an older head. But that is not likely to be the case at City next season.
My other thought is that we have signed plenty of players around that sort of age that have just come for one last payday, such as Kilbane, Sherwood and others. The only time it has ever paid off, even short term, was with Dennis Wise. Doyle is certainly no Dennis Wise though!

Sad to see Doyle go, although I don't think he would be as effective in League 1 as he was last season. He was the heartbeat of our team playing as one of two holding midfielders. He dictated tempo, switched the play well and, when needed, dropped back to be our third central defender. After watching him for two seasons, I honestly can't remember much he's done from a footballing standpoint, but he was ever present and rarely even substituted. I never thought he contributed much, until I saw how much we missed him when he wasn't there (he was substituted at half time for fighting a team-mate).
My lasting memories will be him going to the fans to celebrate after we got promoted, or him encouraging the fans to make more noise, or the occasional bit of dirty gamesmanship that we all say we hate, but secretly love when it's our team. I wish him the best of luck in the future, and hope he can take you back up.

If we need someone of experience, especially at this level, then can't see why not take him back. Think he would be good muscle to hopefully break up play and allow Bigi to show a bit of flair. Lots of us have been saying oh, its L2, it'll be rough, the kids will be in for a kicking. Well this bloke will be up for a bit of that .... if we were signing Lloyd McGrath at this age, we'd be chuffed, and Lloyd wasn't exactly a flair player.
I tell you who will bo over the moon with this signing .. torch didn't Mr Doyle ta have his pic taken once with torches best mate on it ? Or was I over taken by fumes again?
We have now sunk so low that we have found a level in which a 35 year old St. Michael of Doyle might genuinely be a decent signing.

Yeah we are at an all time low but FFS cheer up and be glad we have a manager who can see what is needed in League 2. Doyle just completed 42 games in a championship winning team, comparing him now to his time in the championship is a bit mad
Doyle is just what we have needed for a while, think this will be a very astute signing. I agree he's not a great footballer and he's definitely no vincelot, but does the dirty stuff well, knows the league and leads by example. His experience will show in a team built mainly with youth.
I'm OK with Doyle. He kicks. He motivates. He bollocks you, if needed. As we are now L2, as long as he stays fit, a player we can use. Maybe he can literally kick some life into our useless lot!

The constant maudlin is tedious. We are a 4th tier team, haven't been a top league team for 16 years. We're getting like Wolves or Liverpool, divine right mentality. Boo fucking hoo we were once a top flight side and had a ruinous period of spending millions.
Getting promoted is about pragmatism not ideals. This signing is a player who has just captained a team at this level to promotion. What do people expect?

Doyle is exactly what we need in midfield in league 2. An absolute gobshite with a bite. And most important of all, he's a leader we are desperate for. Just need to get creative people around him like Stevenson and Thomas etc

If we'd stayed up and signed the captain of the league champions everyone would have lapped it up. Instead we've done itin the lower league and people are moaning. If he stays fit we will be promoted. Probably as champions and people still will complain at his contribution. Too many people dont appreciate the need for a water carrier as deschamps was labelled.
Can't complain too much about this signing. A good committed player who's well experienced at this level. Yes he isn't the youngest but still capable of 40 games a season.

We had him for 7-8 years in the Championship as the mainstay of our midfield. So why the hell did we persist with him for all that time if he is a "good league 2 player"?
