Meyler confirmed to be out for the rest of the season- sticking around for his rehab.

Bayliss is seeing a specialist today to see if he can have a light-weight cast, so will find out soon enough, but he will miss Saturday either way most likely.

Between Shipley and Westbrooke for the rest of the season really.

Probably a better place for him to be mentally with him being frozen out at Reading, seems to get on well with the rest of the squad.

Strange Meyler is hanging about here for his rehab when he is on loan.

Are we signing him for next season?

Id be happy with him coming in if he recovers and can get a full preseason behind him. a few interviews recently have said what an influence he has been in the dressing room. we definitely need a few older heads around our squad

Can still perform his role of the experienced older head in the dressing room until the playoffs are impossible. Not like he played much anyway so not really changed from that point of view has it?

The Meyler situation is strange. I like him as a player and no doubt he’s a great influence, but I hope we aren’t paying shed loads of money just to have him around the place.

I think Kelly and Shipley could be a good hard-working combination in centre mid, giving the front players a stronger platform behind them, and a bit more freedom. Bayliss has been playing out of position IMO.

Supose Meyler will still be doing the same as he has for last few months..... Bugger all, so won't make much difference

Seen nothing yet of Meyler to warrant him here next season.

Agreed, would prefer Westbrooke ahead of Shipley in the centre too, even though I do like JS as he's calm and cultured but doesn't get stuck in enough for a centre-midfielder.

Particularly odd that his was the move to facilitate the Doyle departure. Binned out of the starting line-up after the first game. Unable to displace Kelly thereafter. Reading likely to be in this league next season - and he’s unlikely to be back there I suspect. According to the CT, like Enobakhare and Sterling, he’s expected to go to a Championship club next season but his failure to get into our side suggests that might be beyond him I’d suggest.

I had the same thought. While it could be argued he’s been a poor signing in terms of contribution on the pitch as he’s looked massively off the pace, he’s had an influence behind the scenes by all accounts.

With a full pre season behind him, he could be the experienced head we need and would bring some of the attributes Doyle had, albeit at a higher level with the added bonus he also has footballing ability.

However, I imagine salary would be the stumbling block.

Surely we wouldn't pay somebody stupid money just to be "around the club"? You could probably get a couple of top class coaches for his wage who would be just as good to have around the club.

I think he's had niggling problems so not been ready for 90 minutes rather than out of favour

I'd think Westbrook would be a better fit for that role
He's done ok when he's played there previously
Are you saying Westbrooke can play Centre-Back with Hyam?

Or just saying what I alluded to earlier re. ZW playing centre-mid?

Didn’t Vardy play with a broken wrist and a lightweight cast on for some time?

Only saying it should be possible and if ok can’t see why Bayliss shouldn’t make Sunderland.

Seen a few of the players comment on social media about how good it is to have Meyler around. Bit young to be thinking about a move in to coaching I would have thought.
