How is it a bargain for a 31 year-old who moved on a free transfer last season and has hardly played this year?

Not that the £400k is even true, of course.
You are entitled to your opinion which is often anti Robins but if MR decided Paterson the player for us that’ll do for me.

If we really did have £400k in fees to spend it wouldn't be on him
If we do though then so what, its not my money. We're probably the only clubs fans that worry what we're spending 400 measly k on. Hopefully those days are behind us and we'll see a few come in for over a mil again.

it’s a minor amount even if it’s true - it’s less than a years salary of some of our players
We need a centre back somewhat more. If we suddenly have cash to spend it probably shouldn't be on 30+ year olds

So spend it on someone who's got room to develop and give you chance of a return.

its a nominal fee though - you’d pay more than that for a promising player

6 figures?

well frankly if it was less then given the accolades on here from some they’d be a queue round the ground ti sign him

the press release said we signed him for a fee

By all accounts it’s 250k - I’m assuming he has to perform for them to receive the rest.

it’s really a small figure considering we’re in the championship.
We'll soon see either way I suppose. But it seems an odd use of funds and it's interesting how quickly some have forgotten what happens when money gets wasted.

As a free signing though, sure.

I think we’ve only spent this kind of transfer fee on five, maybe six players in the last decade.

We haven’t been in the championship in the last decade

Well observed. Do we have loads more money now then?

Oddly players cost more at this level if you want to compete at this level

we spent £150,000 on Adam Barton and paid £125,000 for Clarke Harris to loan him in league two for 6 months so I don’t really understand your context. We’ve just been purchased so I’d hope within his plan we can pay half the fee we paid for Godden

Chaplin, Godden, Kane,

and the last season in the championship we spent 500k on Cody Mac Donald - the fees in the championship have inflated massively since them
