I will be switching from playstation along with several other friends rather than purchase ps5s, very excited and looking forward to learning something new... Anybody ever made the switch on here...

I haven’t but I would be tempted instead of PS5 also. Unfortunately I spent a grand on a reasonable desktop at the start of lockdown. It’s a decent PC but way off a decent gaming spec. I wasn’t really thinking of gaming at the time just needed a PC for other things. Now I wished I had gone all out and got a decent gaming one!

I prefer pc gaming for things like strategy games but I find pc's hassle in general as I have no idea what the information means and if components are compatible etc.

I won't be in any rush to buy a next gen console. Still plenty of top PS4 games I haven't played and I only have a standard hd TV which is perfectly fine for me but it won't get the benefits of the next gen.

PC is OK if you want to play something like Theme Hospital but for other types of games I just cant deal with it.

See I was playing warzone with some friends who made the switch but kept their ps4s, played on both and they say the difference is night and day... Obviously the higher fps, FOV etc just makes it feel super smooth to them.

The PC I have purchased is higher end spec wise than the series x, but I've paid for it too, it runs warzone at around 180+fps on 1080p however my monitor is only 144hz so I won't feel the extra 36 + frames anyway

Does it make that much difference compared to playing it on a decent 4K TV on a console?

There is a big difference anyway when gaming on a monitor at 144hz as opposed to a 4k TV that are usually 50 60 hz

Added to the fact a 4k TV will have much larger response times.
Obviously you could get the Holy grail, a 200 plus hz 4k monitor with a 1ms response time

But in realistic terms to the normal eye, how much difference is there?

Graphics are better on 4 k, you can see that for sure.. Monitors are smaller, so 4k monitors have million of pixels in a smaller place compared to Tvs which give more definition and clarity.
In regards to the differences between 60fps and 144 fps monitors... The games run much smoother, that's something you feel too when playing, turning, aiming, less jitter and much cleaner... You can see it for example when youtube videos went from being max 30 frames to 60 and above you could see the videos were much smoother

Frame rate and tearing matters far more than resolution for gaming I reckon. I am jealous on that front. Though next gen there’s support for high frame rates and variable refresh rates like with G-sync. Though I doubt I’ll be able to afford a telly that supports it.

You can get a good 1080p monitor at 144hz for 150 - 200 quid, you will reap the benefits of that on next gen

Should if built one, what specs did you get? I'm waiting to upgrade when nvidia 3000 series are released.

Yea it 100% a solid rig only thing I would of said was scrap the hdds, I currently have a 512gb m. 2ssd, and a 1tb Samsung evo ssd, I don't use much stuff though I tend to uninstall games of I need room perks fast Internet 😂.
Just out of curiosity what you pay for it?

Not to bad of a price tbh, and yea my Current pc is a bit lower spec than yours because I've been waiting for the 3000 series gpus, I also got some of my parts from scan the rest amazon black Friday pc parts are amazing. Also you got in a good time nothings really over priced atm when I built my pc 16gb of ram was over £120 😂

The funny thing is, consoles are basically just PCs now and suffer a lot of the issues that they have (need to update os, need to update game, performance/quality mode, tv modes etc).

PC gaming used to be a right pain, but I rarely have any issues anymore and when I do it's because it's a really old game that needs some work around.

Help guys.

My daughter has got super into The Sims and wants a PC that can handle all the mods and top settings. I’ve decided with Switch Pro on the way I might skip a PlayStation generation for the first time and play streaming and the odd game of FIFA locally.

I don’t want to spend £1k on a box to do this, is that even possible? What should I be looking at to give me enough headroom to upgrade and play proper games if I change my mind?

It’ll probably double as a work PC so I’ll likely add lots of RAM to whatever I get for that, and also probably double as a Plex server.

Not even sure where to start with the gaming side. Don’t understand graphics cards at all or what an average recommended spec is.

My advice is to wait for the stores etc to open, as all the prices are inflated as its so hard to get anything... Scalpers are dominating the market even on PC... Wait for 3 or 4 months, inbox me and I can put you a parts list together, I'd even be willing to build it for you for nothing... Saves a couple hundred quid that way

Example, I can sell my graphics card for 600 on ebay second hand atm... It should cost 450 brand new... However once the market goes back to normal and the new graphics cards become more common, my card will drop a good 150 quid I reckon

You don't need a card like mine though mate

BTW I never actually got this rig in the end

My rig, built myself too which was very simple tbh

GEFORCE 2070 SUPER
RYZEN 5 3600x
16 GB RAM
B450 Tomahawk max
2TB SSD
750 WATT PSU

Cheers. Im comfortable enough building it myself. Just not sure what a modern PC with a bit of headroom for any games coming out this gen would look like. I’m not a graphics whore so as long as it runs modern games I’m happy, the recommended specs for the Sims seem modest enough outside the graphics card which I have no idea what’s what.

It's about as powerful as i could get it on my budget mate.. The 2070 super is a cracking card.. The new 30 series card are a bit special though... New consoles come out = new graphics cards that take PC 10 years ahead of Console again releases

I'm actually selling my PC part by part as we speak .

I can't really justify having such an expensive machine at this current time , will look to get myself a ps5 when they are freely available .

Looks like my graphics card alone will fetch 500 quid with them being so hard to buy ATM ...

I just can’t game on a PC. Even with a joypad and a TV it feels weird to me. Don’t know why. Wish I could cos it’s basically free games.
If you playing a game on PC(Lets just say its The Witcher 3) with Xbox/Ps4 controller, on a HDTV with the PC hidden out of view you wouldn't even know what system your playing the game on. This mentality is common though a lot of people I've asked why they wouldn't game on a PC just say I don't like playing on a PC, but cant really explain why.

I switched back in 2013 when the ps4 and Xbox were released I was underwhelmed, as there wasn't any noticeable jump in quality from 360/ps3 especially in earlier titles.
There was some games at the time I wanted that were only available on PC, I was really into the first person horror genre then (first was before Resident Evil 7, Alien Isolation etc)
So games like Amnesia, Outlast, Penumbra Black Plague, were only available on PC at this time.
There was also Football Manager that swayed me, the thought of being able to load a ton of leagues into a mega game on a better system than a crappy laptop was very tempting,

So instead of getting the New Xbox or Ps4, I bought a half pre built system, it was just the tower with a AMD FX 8350 and AMD 7850. That system I still have as my upstairs gaming PC that still runs Football Manager, and less demanding games.

Making the switch now isn't as attractive, PC parts are more expensive so entry cost is quite high
