if they'd dragged a couple of their support who were encroaching on the segregation out it would have put a stop to a lot of it there and then .

If the old bill and stewards had ejected a few of the more mouthy ringleaders the encroachment doesn't happen

Yep, that's the difference. Blackburn was policed well. Yesterday was an absolute horror show from the police. A barrier doesn't work because you kettle fans together.
The club have to pay for policing in the ground that’s why you don’t get many in there.

Yes but don't the police decide the amount of police needed? I seem to remember the club were annoyed about having to pay a fortune in the past?

What, do the Police say they want 40 there and the club say we’ll pay for that when they only budgeted for 10. I can’t see that happening. I would have thought they would work off what intelligence and rumours there are go to the club and a decision is made. Certainly my understanding that if the Police come into the ground then the club has to pay for it. I imagine they can get 3 or 4 steward for the cost of a copper so go for that alternative.

In the past the police presence when Millwall come to town is ridiculous. Literally dozens of police with dogs.

Few policemen with dogs are worth a dozen without. Dogs are a big deterrent.

Do WMP still have horses, used to see Mounted Police almost every game at Highfield Road, always trying to avoid the manure in the road!

It would be part of the conditions for getting a safety certificate wouldn't it? In any case the issue isn't really the number of police on duty its the way the stewards and police are seemingly not capable of simple crowd control that is done as a matter of routine at other clubs.

Add in that we have a crowd dispersal plan seemingly designed to maximise trouble and an attitude that as soon as its off the arena footprint its not the responsibility of those on duty for a match day and its no wonder we have problems.

I believe we no longer have Mounted police.
At Blackburn last week they had Mounted police dog handlers and at least 50 more police officers they were standing all along the access road to the ground.
Blackburn must pay for this not sure if they have that many every week.
Funny there was no trouble and we took as many there as Derby had here.

The WMP horses used to be stabled at Chace Ave in Willenhall but they removed them about 15 years ago.

I don't condone violence but lifetime bans in my view would be a massive over reaction. Seems to me that the police just want to ban anything that looks slightly boisterous.

If that is the approach nowerdays surely all the 'known' Millwall fans that the Met keep tabs on home and away would just be banned?

I don't want to go back to what the old heads call the dark ages of football but yesterday I saw first hand disability discrimination by a Derby group pissed/drugged up before the game and if their disrespectful attitude they got them a slap or two later in the day as they were being obnoxious again I would not want to ban the fans for life who did that.

It's a very fine line but the police need to target the organisers and those who bring tools intent on committing horrible crimes. Ban them for life 1000%. Not your peaceful but tough fans who can hold the line when faced with extreme provocation.

I see both sides and how a blanket approach is convenient but I would suggest there is a little perspective about the different type of trouble maker as there not all the same.

I think it was even longer than that. I think in the last couple of seasons of our prem membership the mounted section (when needed) was drafted in from Leicester police.

The trouble in the 70’s and 80’s did affect the crowds, but it was like comparing apples and pears to the bits yesterday.

So hooliganism is a new thing? Never stopped me or any other person on here following us 30 years ago. People are just far too soft. FAR FAR worse things going on in the world that a pathetic scrap up the football. Open your eyes mate
You need to look back at the late eighties, have a look at the average gates of even the top teams. Football was on its knees and one of the biggest contributing factors was the type of moronic behaviour lots of us witnessed yesterday. We were trying to leave after the game yesterday with my 6 year old granddaughter but couldn’t walk around the fence because of the morons on the hill. It’s nothing to do with the football and I would think that what they saw yesterday will make some people wonder do they want to come and watch again. We’ll be losing the decent fans but keeping the idiots.

I'm not condoning yesterday but it was nothing like the 80s, not even close thankfully.
