Fair play to the lad. Barnsley top scorer with 11 goals.

Hope he does well.

Think the time has come to admit fair enough he's shut me up. Though it's hard to comprehend how he can go from missing tap-ins in League 1 to double figures in the Championship...

Possibly the expectation that he had/ will when he came here, everyone thought he was the next mcnulty and I just don't think I could cope, also more experienced now

I didn't think he'd set the world alight I just thought he'd handle scoring open goals and 1 v 1s.

Confidence maybe? I remember McNulty missing some pretty easy chances before really starting to bang them in. What has surprised me about Chaplin is that i didn't really see what his strengths were when he was here, he wasn't exceptionally quick or technically gifted and i couldn't see how we would the best out of him. Clearly Barnsley have found a better way to play him and he's doing pretty well there.

Maybe. I still think we got a good profit on him based on his season's performance. He's also proven Jackett wrong in the process

It was a good deal for us, we got a profit on a player who hadn't nailed down a place for certain and didn't seem to suit our formation/tactics. He should go on to have a decent career at Championship/L1 level id expect.

He’s a ‘fox in the box’. Very quick over the first 5 yards and has some skills to boot! A strange signing for us, given that we were never going to play to his style. That’s why Pompey got rid of him too.
Maybe we signed him just to cash in later on?

There must have been a plan that they thought would get him scoring but alot of the time he was very deep and not in position to be said fox in the box. I think he's decent, just wasn't suited to us.

Everyone could see he had ability and would get goals in the right system. Unfortunately that wasn’t here and we were right to sell him when we did. Same goes for JCH

Yeah, me too.
I remember him being played almost as a holding midfielder!
Good luck to him.

He's a good lad.

Genuinely wouldn't get into our starting 11 though, just wouldn't fit.

The one on one he had late on in the home game against Sunderland was his sliding doors moment with us. Put that away and not only is he off and running but I'm fairly confident we'd in the Premier League now, having skipped the Championship because the FA thinks we're lovely.

Think the big thing was Biamou getting injured, which meant a system change.

Biamou wasn’t starting games until the one he was injured in. Chaplin was better when bright came in as a number 10

He played out of position most of the time. He was deep or on the right. Robins plays one striker up front and he was never really going to get a great chance

Also he missed chances early on and fans never seemed to take to him really. Whatever people say fans have pre conceptions on players. Shipley has one bad game and how out of his depth. Biamou has a cameo in the same game and apparently his pulling defenders all over the place. People see what they want to see.

I must admit that was one of the strangest misses I’ve witnessed.

True G but I’m focusing mainly on all the sitters and tap ins.
