I sat behind rich Stevens today (academy manager) he said the trialist first half is a Portuguese youngster from Tottenham he didn't mention the 2nd trialist though.. He also said that its been the best 2 weeks in the club in 5 years throughout, new footballs new bibs new cones new minibus so I guess things are looking up! Someone asked him if he thinks Maddison and Conor Thomas be regular next season he said Thomas no chance ...

That's because Connor Thomas is a non entity. Mowbray said he's given him food for thought with his pre-season efforts which tells me prior to this he did not rate him.

Thought Thomas played quite well before the head injury.

Tbf to Thomas he played two very accomplished diags before coming off. Still, it is hard to judge individual performances in friendlies.

agree with you there. As someone's started a thread to start slagging him off, thought it was only right to mention he did well today. Tbh I'm surprised someone so close to the club was talk so openly and disparagingly about a squad player to a complete stranger. Good squads/teams are built on trust.

Did he say Thomas or actually say Conor Thomas?

I read it as the OP overheard the conversation. I imagine the OP is making stuff up? ;)

I do hope CT has a good season. He does try, and does show some potential, hopefully TM can get the best out of him :)

Yeah, I read it that the OP overheard it, but the way he says "someone asked him if Maddison & Thomas...." Reads to me that a random asked him, and he'd overheard it. Yeah fingers crossed he will progress and TM can get the best out of him, he has the attributes he just needs the confidence and mental strength. :)

Not a fan of Thomas but he was alright today. Thought triallist A was great, but who was triallist b? Number 16?

There is a suggestion on the match thread

More like, those people that hang around the dug out, then think they are one of the coaching staff as they spoke to someone ;)? :D

I'm sure a member of staff wouldn't belittle the players, especially to a random fan :)

Exactly, re Thomas :)

Roussel Ngankam was the suggestion.

Yes, 16 was the other triallist, thought he was very average.

I doubt the academy manager would say that Thomas has 'no chance' of starting to a random fan.

If he did, then that's disappointing and very unprofessional.

The op or his informant are talking a load of bollocks......there is no way the academy manger would say that.
It is unprofessional and he could lose his job instantly.....therefore crock of shite.....close the thread!

Conor Thomas gets a helluva lot of stick.....think he will be a useful squad member have seen him play quite a few
decent games in the past he was very good at Wolves away a while back I remember. Useful option of bench.

I agree. From TM post match interview he obviously sees Vincealot and Fleck as a promising pairing. But Conor Thomas will be an important squad member, otherwise contract or not they would have encouraged him to look for another club.

I don't understand some fans, they seem to want certain players to fail.

He was talking to another accademy coach I think it was or his friend.. He said Thomas but then he said what about george and he said couple of games.. He was also talking about a youngster signing a 6 year contract

If you are correct, then apologies.

Just can't see it myself. Why would coaches be discussing contracts etc when a game is going on? And surely it's up to TM who starts games, not said coaches?

Yep. If The decision about Thomas had already been made, why play him today and I give him be captains armband for the second half?!

No opinion on who said what. But if we have a midfield of Fleck & Conor Thomas again next season, we will be doing fuck all.

* don't actually think we will, I'm trusting that Mowbray won't even entertain the idea.

We desperately need some attacking midfielders, because I can't see Fleck and RV being much better in an attacking sense. Was interesting first half Finch and Fleck, you'd think Finch would be the defensive one allowing Fleck to push forward, but he rarely did and for the last 20 mins of the first half it was finch pushing forward and fleck playing from deep,

Fleck and Vincelot will be the 2 sitters in the 4-2-3-1. That much must have been obvious for everyone today. Thomas won't be getting a kick this season, besides injuries, suspensions, JPT games and 10 minutes at the end of games.

It's a 4-2-3-1, neither DM will be that attacking.

Of course it was obvious.

Dont worry we won't have a two man midfield. I don't think anyone is suggesting Conor Thomas will start every game, people are just saying he will feature and has a role in the squad and hasn't been cast aside as a non starter.

It it is however clear Fleck is at the forefront of Mowbrey's thinking at the moment.

I remember the Christmas game against MK Dons and Fleck was everywhere, why can't he always be like that!
id imagine an attacking midfielder is near the top of Mowbrays list.

If Mowbrey can get Swanson back on song we wouldn't need one.
