The Turkish league is a bit crap, and signings from that league seem to be a mixed bag.

But if we are spending this kind of money on a player I have full confidence that Robins knows what he's doing and that he's going to be a good player for us. Some big, big clubs were interested in him.

Unlike you to not be a little bit optimistic
Who do you think isn’t considering the risk correctly

I just can’t believe the fee is £9m for him. He looks very raw and is 25 and hardly torn up any trees in worse leagues. I can’t wrap my head around it at all TBH. I think there’s always going to be a risk with a new recruitment team and a management team who haven’t had cash that we make a big money mistake. Well see.

His goal scoring record in Turkey has been v good and his minutes to goal ratio just as good as Gyokeres. As much as I rated Gyokeres, there were times he was “clumsy and very raw”.

Again, we’ve just demanded €24m for Gyokeres who had one season left on his deal. Rangers, Villarreal and Palace have been linked/had bids rejected so it’s not just the whims of our recruitment team.

I’m optimistic that this signing would be a coup for the club and will be a fine striker in the Championship. The Turkish first division is a comparable league.

Does seem expensive but I guess they have done their homework. The clips i've seen I can see some echos of Viks style, powerful and direct. There is no way we are paying €9m upfront or even in installments. It will be heavily weighted on his goal scoring and if we get promoted, if he hits the targets and helps us get promotion it'll seem cheap. The Tweets and reports just focus on the highest numbers to grab attention just like like how Simms signed for '£8m' where its not even half of that

The rumour was €9m up front plus 20% sell on plus €2m in add ons. Doesn’t sound like the Simms deal to me.

Funnily and interview with Fenerbahe this morning

Haji Wright also confirmed his news to me, our board of directors. We made a certain offer. Since our name is FENERBAHÇE, they asked for extra money, so we gave up. Now we got the DZEKO that Haji Wright would like to take a picture with, for the same coins @leventumiterol

Good for them, but Dzeko is now 37 years old. Classic Superliga signing.

I saw that but highly doubt it is accurate, we'll not know until the accounts come out. Fuck it either way not our cash, won't bankrupt us as it is still the Vik money and if Robins wants him i'll trust his judgment.

Do really feel like the initial reports out of Turkey are just wishful thinking from their fans

van Ewijk is 74 I think too. For comparison I think Godden is 69 or 70 and Walker is 68. 71 is average mid table champ player really.

You know, I’m still scratching my head wondering why our recruitment team don’t use FIFA / EA FC to sign players.

At the start of last season, the difference between Godden and Gyokeres was 2-3 overall points.

Everyone is banned from using this term until after we've seen him play after the Kastaneer incident

Signing a free agent from a relegated eredivisie team is slightly different to spending €9m on a player.

On the same merit, surely I could say because Hamer was a great signing, every player we sign abroad must be that good.

The question was asked! 3 points is the difference between average and outstanding TBF.
The difference between Gyokeres and Wright last season was 1 overall. So by the same logic Wright must be close to Gyokeres…

… Or we can stop using silly FIFA comparisons.

I can’t think of any but the sample size wouldn’t be very big
The sample size is as big as any other league, surely?

I’m just looking for an indication that a good goalscoring record in Turkey can translate to a good goalscoring record here.

I don't think so. I think there is only about 12 players to come form that league in any position that went into the EPL and can hardly see any for the Championship - I suppose its not that relevant as he has played in other European leagues
