Can't help but think the Ricoh is still the end goal in all of this, but this definitely gives the club a strong hand to play.

Interested to see the next stage of the plans

Why? This makes so much more sense and most importantly they don't have to deal with cov council and have access to all the revenues without having to have dirty insect stuff all over the place

It'll be fucking hilarious if the wasps project fails and the council ends up with the white elephant of an empty ricoh

Early doors but I hope this eventually comes to fruition.

- New stadium outside of CCC jurisdiction, hopefully any related retail, pubs and bars fall under that too.
- Complaint with the European Commission gives Wasps all sorts of bother

All aboard the SISU shithouse express

Normally with this kind of thing I'd be very sceptical but as it's also been announced by Warwick Uni it definitely gives it more authority. Bit vague in that no site has yet been chosen etc so suggests very early in the process. There is a little voice in my head saying their being used as pawns in another SISU game and this is for the benefit of the EFL conditions and they also hope it will lead to them getting their hands on the Ricoh, but on the other hand it could be an indication they know the EU thing is going to fail and have to look elsewhere.

Could well become the university stadium as well, like US colleges have, and the partnership gives them more of a business case with us using it and helps us afford it.

I'd have thought it would rely on that light rail system being done and that's years away, but the Ricoh was done on a similar promise and that didn't happen for a long time after.

They will have to deal with the council even the vaguest of vague statements says that

Good news in terms of intent, putting pressure on the council.
I'd be amazed if a football stadium got approved on that side of the city, especially near to Gibbet Hill. Presume it must be further away from that end. Also, pubs and that. Gotta be worse than the Ricoh init?

Says we’ve got to deal with the WMCA, surely they’ll just put cov council back in their place?

Statement says will have to deal with all surrounding local authorities

I personally just can't see them ever building a new ground and a 4-5 year plan would possibly give us enough time to see Wasps go truly under and having this as announcement maybe could then give us a stronger position when negotiating with the council.

Would be brilliant to be proven wrong in the end and a new stadium would be amazing, but I can't help but be dubious to this announcement

It definitely says where the stadium will be, just not the specific area within that land.

Anyway, communicating at an early stage is positive, right.

Well it means the EFL will let us play at a ground for a few more years outside Coventry I guess

Well this is a very strong hand Sisu have put the club in now. This will make Wasps stand up. The fact Warwick University is involved isn’t a game. They’ve offered the land now it’s all about planning. There would have been some early engagement with the land agent. Funding for this is going to coming through expanded joint partnership of student accommodation and university facilities.

Don’t be surprised if we sign a longer term deal at St Andrews now if Wasps don’t give us a good 5 year deal at the Ricoh.

This is obviously welcome news, particularly that the university is involved, but I don’t think it’s much to get excited about yet. There is so much to get done and I won’t get the buzz until there are spades in the ground. I do love the idea of CCC shitting themselves at the cost of a white elephant ricoh though.

Undoubtably a step forward though. A great idea to include retail and student housing in the project where it will be needed to bring the costs down. Just need to get some proper fan zones and stuff in there so there are places to eat and drink before and after games. Get people in early and out late generating ads much cash as possible for the club. If this happens we need to learn the mistakes of the Ricoh not repeat them.

I’d love to know what the timeline is too. As I said no excitement until things get movingAt the moment it’s just a (welcome) partnership. Let’s see what they do over the next 6/12 months.

Also backs up the story that they were looking for a 5 year deal. If things progress on this I’m sure the EFL will approve our stay outside the city and I’m curious as to the timing of the announcement with Ricoh talks ongoing.

So, could it really be a three year deal at the Ricoh this year? Or even two more years at St Andrews and new stadium for 22-23 season back in the Prem?

How long does it take the club to build a stadium when it really is trying?

Well it's about time!

Please learn from the Ricoh and design a proper stadium not a soulless bowl of doom. Rectangles not Bowls!
I agree but “bowls” allow you to put all the supporting businesses in like the casino, hotel etc etc. I was looking at Brentford’s new design the other day. That looks better but they have housing and all sorts within that.

There's a lot of land on the Cryfield side where a lot of sport pitches currently are, whether alongside or in place of them would be my initial guess for a spot

As long as they put the away fans on the side of the pitch I'll be happy...... PUSB

I would love it to be somewhat like brentfords ground - Modular, modern, yet actually looks good

Modular= can be disassembled, transported and put back up anywhere, just in case we fancy continuing our tour of Midlands towns to play in.

Don't like the capacity but there you go. Take out away fans & thats about 16,000 home seats- too low for Championship and the way we're heading, but with modular that could be increased very quickly. Can't complain about the 'sense' behind it.

Like they do at Brighton. Bars open for hours before and after the game to let people leave in a more relaxed way. And the club make more dollars!
