NEWS: Coventry City appoint Chris Badlan as Head of Recruitment

Chris joins the Sky Blues from Norwich City, where he had been Head of European scouting.

Badlan joined the Canaries in May 2017, prior to which he had been Head of Emerging Talent at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he had also previously been Technical Recruitment Officer.

“Unlike previous changes in recruitment staff, thanks to the work to create a Recruitment Department the transition will be seamless. We are pleased that Stuart Bentham, the club’s recruitment analyst, continues in his role and the club’s recruitment database remains, so the club and Chris are in a strong position to hit the ground running going into the summer.”

Sounds like Boddy got it sorted as soon as he realised TW was going.

Like the thought of him knowing about scouting abroad as well, could pick up some gems :)

"Having someone coming from the youth side into the first team is great when we’re looking to develop young and hungry players.

"With Chris, he’s always had a real firm handle on Europe. His knowledge of foreign players is pretty much encyclopaedic.

"We’ve spoken about being open-minded in terms of who we sign. That includes foreign players and Chris has a really strong working knowledge of this level.

Seems like a coup judging from his background. Overseas experienced and worked with clubs who have performed at a relatively high level! Like Nick says, he could unearth some gems abroad.... something we haven't done in a while.

Obvious potential party pooper question: did Norwich sign many foreign players that worked out? (I have no idea)
Ha! Ask a Norwich fan! They have signed a number of German players from the second tier, very few of whom have worked out!

My Norwich fan friend just texted me to say that our team will be full of German crap next year! To be fair, their German manager, Farke, has probably driven their recruitment in that direction.

Seems like a good appointment. TW was a manager at Eastbourne before coming to us, so to get someone who's head of European scouting for a Championship club, appears to be a step up. Time will tell...

Gonna pour cold water on this appointment.

If we was a championship club I’d be more excited but we’re currently a L2 club with ambition to get into L1.

Our immediate concerns are not players with potential qualities for the next 18-36 months so much it’s the here and now.

Now he might have be able to use his experience and trained eye to do that but I’d of preferred someone with the similar traits and background to TW.

Happy to be proved wrong but I think this is not quite the best appointment.
