Mate, I have no idea if we have to sell. I have no idea what this season's finances are. Maybe we do, maybe we don't. You can't blame people for asking questions when Fisher comes out and talks about "£1m profit". Now maybe that's something different, maybe it's an accountancy thing only OSB understands. But he must know that your average fan isn't an accountant and if he says things like that people will get the impression we don't *need* to sell players.

This is what I mean about managing fan expectations. He didn't say "We can't make incomings meet outgoings, so our plan is to sell at least one academy prospect each January", instead he said "now we are making £1m profit".

We made a profit because we sold Maddison, I thought he had said quite a few times that the model relies on us selling a player every season?

Why will the average fan get the impression that we don't need to sell?

And lost how many?

Doesn't look like all the players leaving have left yet either.
6 players have already left. Sordell who was probably one of the highest earners and the 5 loanees.
I believe we were paying their wages
That's probably how we were able to bring the 4 new guys in early
It looks almost certain that other players are going out for significant fees very soon.
Hopefully RS is being given some of that income to use for replacements.
It looks like there is a decent plan now rather than just a fire sale. At least I hope so

That is what we have been left with. Guesses and hope.

At least we still have hope

Fair point, I hadn't looked into the quotes properly. He did say that (sorry, I was on non-football related CCFC stuff blackout for about a year so missed a lot of detail).

But not enough to pay their wages. That is why we are here now.

But what I meant is we sell and don't even put just 20% back into purchasing a replacement. Someone who then could be sold for a profit at a later date. We are always going backwards. And then we are in competition for the free signings with everyone else.
Turnbull and Jones were bought and if Jones learns how to play football he could be sold for a profit

1.5 is a good offer.
It's a gamble of signing for them really.
I am surprised they are going that high this early in his career.
For once the owners did well getting him signed up to 4 years

Agreed, there were a number of players who slipped through in the last 5 years that should have been given longer deals.
Maybe someone has been a bit smarter on the conditions offered to make them more mutually rewarding?

You'd be a fool to base your entire financial strategy on selling kids then not sign the kids up on long deals.

Apparently Cov seriously considering a £1.5m offer from Brentford.

I guess Brentford need to wait for the Scott Hogan deal to through before a sealed deal.

They are going to struggle to replace Hogans goals, even if he does go for £15 mill. They might not have too much more leeway to improve their offer for Stevenson

BBC says 'outside the UK'
<snip> We've always sold our best and we always will. Particularly now when we are skint.

<snip>
Not so. Under Jimmy Hill, we bought the best. And we never sold a player unless we had someone better to replace him. Consequently we moved up the table and got promoted. Twice.

Reporter from The Independent saying Brentford will need to go in with a 3rd bid for Stevenson.

Not as much as you think ! Rochdale have a 30% sell on fee.
Good business by Rochdale btw.

If you have a problem with us selling players then you need to assist the club with an alternative source of income. The only possibility of that is ticket sales, get down the ricoh.

I wonder what the Maddison transfer details were,
Anderson alluded to the fact that it was several million in total, many guessed @ £6m,
& that all of that money would go back into the club on the football side of things, one way or another.
Ben Stevenson does compare well to Maddison, & personally I'd rate him above JM, added to which we are another year down the line, & inflation must be included in his value.
The unfortunate situation is that the recent history of players being sold by CCFC, is widely regarded as 'peanuts', Harry Redknap's description of what the cherries paid for Callum Wilson.

They will still bank the bones of 10 million if he goes for 15m. How much did they sign him for from Rochdale?

£808k according to transfermarkt.

The latest bid from West Ham is rumoured to be around £12m, £3m shy of Brentford's valuation.

Please can you provide some quotes of people who guessed £6m

I can't see how we wouldn't be better of as a club by holding on to him at least until the summer when the transfer window proper opens and he has a full season under his belt to be valued on. Can't help but think the Brentford are chancing their arm here because they know that come the summer they probably couldn't afford him.

This deal will be stacked with add on clauses, so if they had offered anything more than a mill on initial fee, he would of been gone already in my opinion. I'm sure somebody posted on here they had seen an agent remark 1.5 mill was the asking price and they had been sent the dvd of Stevenson as a selling pitch.

According to the article above it was 750 K with add ons taking it to 1.5 mill max. The same article states that press reports suggest we want a million down, players on loan and add ons taking it to 2 mill

RK, several of the daily papers were quoting that figure,
however, my point is that CCFC, do not seem to get just rewards for the promising talent that moves on.
