Bobby Robson: We didn't underestimate them, they were just a lot better than we thought.

Big Ron did a great interview for sky when he was Cov manager vs Southampton I think "I'll whoop 'em for that"..."who got man of the match". Some great quotes in that interview, hilarious!

In his first press conference as Southampton manager:

"So Gordon, do you believe you are the man to take the club forward?"

"No"

Joe Mercer about Cov - "we started badly and fell away"

Bill Shankly - "if he wasn't interfering with play what was he doing on the pitch?"

Big Ron talking about Carlton Palmer:
I wouldn't say he was gifted with technical ability, in fact he can trap a ball further
Than I can kick one.

Was it Bill Shankly that took a player back out on the pitch after a game. "What we looking for boss? That bloody hole you have been hiding in all game"

Joe Royle after mid week cup defeat at home against Tottenham when Ozzie Ardiles and Ricky Villa had ran the show, "We were just a bunch of yard dogs tackling dust."

The late great Bill Shahkly:
Of course I didn't take my wife to watch Rochdale For our anniversary,
it was her birthday.
Do you really think I'd get married during the football season.
Anyway it were Rochdale reserves. :)

During Jack Charlton's early days as Rep of Ireland boss, he reputedly and quite often referred to Liam Brady as "Ian Brady". (Younger readers may want to ask a grown up)
On another occasion during a training session he enquired: "Where did those two Irish fella's go"?

It was Bill Shankley who came out with the much quoted "football isn`t a matter of life and death, it`s more important than that".

(reputedly describing Bobby Gould) "He couldn`t trap a bag of cement".

And my favourite:- when asked what he would do if Everton were playing at the back of his house, "I`d draw the curtains".
