anyone remember the League cup game against Liverpool in November 1977 at Anfield took about 10K drew 2 2 fantastic atmosphere horrendous fog on the way home

I was there! Fantastic night! I was working at Morris Engines at the time and a group of us went to the game. I remember drowning out the Kop with our singing!

This is a time I remember well. I often wonder what ever happened to all these players? I know we hear things and legends day brings in a few but most we don't know about. Ernie Hunt, Jeff Blockley, Neil Martin to name a few.

Saw everything through Sky Blue tinted glasses . great days .

I suspect I'm actually in this photo, just peering out from under Fergie's left armpit.

As a further claim to fame I once had a piss in a pub, stood at the latrine between Wallace and Beck.

I was in the united end when Bannister scored the winner at O/T 0-1 Legend for that alone .

I remember his second debut at Southampton. Can't remember the score but I hated the Dell. The pitch was at chest height and you couldn't see a thing apart from legs.

A fine player Bannister - much underrated, and would have made a good striker (as opposed to winger) IMO .

I had high hopes like NW when he came back, but it just didnt work out. I think it finally went wrong when that plank Butcher became manager

The Dell was a great little ground but, like you said Torch, the away terrace was pitch level. Remember a great game we won
3-2 there, Don Nardiello scored the winner.

Think I remember him playing for West Midlands Police ....funnily enough

This was my era. Champions of Div 3 to Champions of Div 2:

It's disgusting that the 'Second Division Champions' team photo does not include George Hudson who was our top scorer and one of the main reasons we were Champions. He'd been sold by the time the photo was taken. They should have invited him back to put on the shirt for the photo.

Sorry Gazolba, I suspect your memory is playing tricks. I don't think Hudson played in the promotion-winning season, having moved on the year before?

I love the pictures though. They take me back to my childhood, when I would cut them out of the Telegraph and stick them on my bedroom wall :)

The curse Sillett had was he just couldn't get a striker to fire. Both Drinkell and Bannister had proper pedigree, for the time, at previous clubs but, when they came here...

At least Bannister was somewhat better than Drinkell, I guess!

Actually, just wiki'ing him, and his strike rate wasn't *over* bad second time around. So near, yet so far...

I thought Bannister, while not prolific like elsewhere, did okay for us..

Edit to add: Just looked myself: 11 in 42 during his second spell.

May 1987
CCFC 1
Man Utd 1
Gynn and whiteside

It was strange seeing Bryan Robson on a pitch and not the TV.
Then him looking like a normal player no better than Gynn or Regis.

Ernie Hunt usually turns up for Legends.

I've had a couple of chats with him over the years - quite a character!

Look around you at the Ricoh. Most of our fans are over 40
For good reason since you have to be that old to remember any good times.

Fighting relegation in division two
Relegation to division 3
Fighting relegation in division 3
A stint in another county

Has set that tone for many years to come unfortunately

Hudson was top scorer in the 1965-66 season. Bobby Gould was top scorer 1966-67 and you're right, Calista, Hudson wasn't with us that season.

Like Otis, I started watching in the late 60's but this was my favourite era.

Shame that big Jim is missing from the photo.

What a fab picture, this was my favourite team and era.
If I had ever got to be on Mastermind,"Coventry City season 1977-78" would have been my specialist subject !
Such a shame we blew the UEFA cup chance towards the end of season. That year we were a very special team.
