I've had an article published in Late Tackle football magazine, on my fifty years following the Sky Blues. I broke it down in sections : 60's 70s 80's 90's and the present. I wrote about winning promotion verses Wolves, our Cup Final victory, a violent incident at Stoke City, plus players and grounds etc. So what are your highlights etc since supporting the City ?

Going back a bit, but two games within a week of each other in 1963. I was 14 years old at the time.

Coventry 2 Sunderland 1 FA Cup 5th round 25/3/63
Attendance 40,487
Scorers: George Curtis and Dietmar Bruck.
An amazing game, Sunderland were two divisions above us.
More details:
Coventry City v Sunderland, 25 March 1963

The FA Cup quarter final between Coventry and Manchester United 30/3/63
Attendance 44,000 (2nd highest ever I think)
Terry Bly scored for us, Bobby Charlton (2) and Albert Quixall for them.
A fantastic game even though we lost 1-3.
Manchester United went on to win the cup.
More details:
Coventry City v Manchester United, 30 March 1963

A few memorable moments as a Cov fan!

- Hughes’ GK after Bennett’s red card
- winning the last game at Highfield Road, gutted I missed that game
- Winning at Old Trafford
- Dann’s last minute equaliser v Newcastle
- Chelsea in the FA Cup
- Westwood’s last min penalty save v Wolves
- watching the Checkatrade in the uni library and cheering out loud!

Promotion last year topped it all though!

We beat Watford 5-0 - Peter Bodak had the game of his life if I remember right. Also pretty sure the Man U game was 3-2. Memorable games all though.

A 4-3 victory at HR Against Man City in September 2001. Pegged back 3 times before David Thompson scored an 89th minute winner. Great game. Thought we'd piss the league after that game.

That Man City was ridiculously good for the second tier. Probably up there with Mowbray’s Albion team in 07-08.

-The 4-1 win against the hungover title-celebrating Everton to stay up
-Gibson's hatrick in the 4-0 against Liverpool's golden era team
-Waiting outside for The Pink to be delivered to the shop after a win as a kid in the early 80's
-Cyrille's five goals against Chester and being pictured lying on the ground with five balls afterwards
-87 and everything about it, natch
-The 4-3 win against Spurs in the league the FA Cup season and Cyrille's lungbusting celebratory run after his last minute winner (featuring a lungbusting run!)
-Nuddy's hatrick at Anfield, first player to score one there in a couple of decades I think
-Speedo's hatrick of headers in the 5-0 against Sheff Wed
-Speedo's outrageous chips, the one against Norwich if you have to pick one
-Gazza getting pissed off at Lloyd's man marking, lashing out, and breaking his arm on Lloyd. THAT hard...
-Steve Livingstone mullering Sunderland and Forest in the League Cup
-The Magical Christmas of Quinn & Rosario, beating Liverpool 5-1 and Villa 3-0 in a couple of days.
-Chris Marsden's midfield performance against Swindon
-The win against Spurs to stay up
-Slaughtering champions Blackburn 5-0 with the orange ball
-Whelan's goal against Southampton
-Froggat's goal against Everton
-Beating Chelsea those opening games with Dion and Huck dominating
-The run we went on after signing Boateng in 97-98, was it 2 defeats in 22 games? Dion at his best. Shoulda won the cup that year
-Moldovan and Villa
-Keane's magic, notably the goal against Arsenal
-Thompson's thunderbolts in The Championship year after relegation
-Richie Partridges dribbles and goals
-The Eric Black team when it felt like we scored 6 every week and Joachim and McSheffrey's Little and Little partnership
-Safri's goal against Norwich
-Mifsud and the 2-0 win at Old Trafford in the League Cup
-Adebola's barnstorming run and finish against Blackburn
-Doyle's goal against Preston from outside the area
-Deegan's volleyed goal against Blackpool.
-David Bell's goal from the halfway line against Doncaster, chipping Neil Sullivan a la Beckham only better, cos it's David Bell, so WTF...
-Callum Wilson's first goal for the club, coming on as sub and cutting in from the right byline to beat a couple of men and slot home
-George Thomas's goal in the Checkatrade final
-Jodi's hatrick last season
-The playoffs last season, especially Max and Bayliss's goals

Ah game of the season that, when we still had hope of bouncing straight back.

Most of mine already listed but I'd add my first game at home in 1980 beating Liverpool 1-0, last game at HR 1st game at the Ricoh, the game when it was announced SISU had saved the day (yeah I know!) the March to get us back from Northampton and the first game back v Gillingham.

Yep it was. Can't find the goal anywhere online but had a feeling it was from a Bobby McDonald corner and yet any other footage I've seen BM didn't take corners so perhaps my memory clouded simply by him being the nearest player to us. We sat on the couple of rows in front of those wooden exec boxes at boot level by the touchline. First and only time ever so no idea why dad got tickets there.

It was from a corner but I’m effed if I can remember who took it. Those pitch level seats in front of the main stand was where I sat for a couple of seasons ‘76/77 to ‘78/79. I graduated to the West Stand by the 80’s.
