We are going down, who's fault Sisu or Thorns ?

Easy.
Sisu every time.

Get a grip you moron.... He had NO money to spend while clubs around us have bought in 5+ players. No matter who the manager we would have gone down with this squad.

basically.sisu are to blame for alot of things..sure..but thorn isnt blameless..it has been the worst season in my living memory...and i guess alot of others to..we need a complete overhaul...from top to bottom..now whether with the hoff.and his backers..if they are real..or new owners..i dont know..so for me..thorn is the fall guy...as no one at the mo..can remove sisu..on emore thing..can someone please give a valid reason why thorn SHOULD be kept on as manager..i would welcome thorn back as scout..no probs..but not manager.if anyone would like a more in depth reason..well i'll be in the casino saturday before doncaster.

Thorn is out of his depth. Fair comment.

But would any other manager on his wages do much better with this poor squad. Probably not!

Hold on...who started this thread with his in-depth view? And what does give up without a ghost mean??

I dont know how you or anybody can really evaluate Thorn's performance given his lack of resources and support from the board. He could be the best manager in the world or the worst or anywhere in between for that matter, but what is certainly not up for debate is the total lack of support and resources he has received from SISU.

I would be very hard pushed to think of anybody who would have done any better in the circumstances.

Can I just quote to you from Steve Cotterill, of Forest at the start of April; talking about the loan signings that turned his season around:

"At one stage, we could have had Jose Mourinho in charge here and we would have lost matches because we could not put a back four together," said Cotterill. "We can do that now and it has helped us a lot and that has been key to the turnaround."

Well said! We should have protested more. We should have stood together and made more noise. If this had been Spurs or Man City or Leeds, they would have protested more vehemently. We just rolled our eyes, shrugged our shoulders and got on with it. Each and every one of us is to blame. Me included.

I agree albatross. If he'd been given leicester type resources and flopped then I'd concede that he was/ is poor. He hasn't been given anything so I lay the blame squarely with the owners. I have a sneaky suspicion that money and knowing roughly what to spend it on = more likelihood of success.. ccfc are the polar opposite and the club is where it is.

Thorns stubborness to change tactics or formation for half a season has cost us. Our inability to convert 5 or 6 penalties has cost us. SISU's lack on investment meant injuries have lead towards a good run of form ending, which has cost us. It's far from 1 factor by itself.

We can all blame lots of people and give reasons why we have done so badly this year. I just wanted to make a comparison with my local team (Watford) and how they have done this year. At the end of last season they lost their manager to Cardiff and he took one of the better players with him (Cowie), they replaced the manager with a first timer (Sean Dyche). They then sold their top scorer to Swansea (Graham) and play maker to Brighton (Buckley). Virtually no one was brought in. Despite the sales the club is by all accounts financially in trouble. All the experts had them down as relegation certainties. Crowds similar or lower to ours. Didn't win in their first six games (including losing to Bristol Rovers in the Carling). Slight improvement up to Christmas - then they sold their leading goalscorer (Sordell). Yet now they are lower mid table and secure in the Championship for another season. Their young team has fought and fought and fought to get where they are (I know when we went there there weren't so hot but generally ...). They have consistently over the years brought through youngsters (50 Academy boys have made it to the first team over the past ten years!) and they all seem to want to play.
So what is the difference between us? For me it comes down to passion and it looks like AT couldn't get the team passionate about playing for Cov - only put his own blood pressure up.

We only see things from outside of the club - we do not know everything that has gone on. It is very difficult to make a reasoned assessment of anyone's ability.

There is no doubt that SISU have undermined the manager, team, and support for this club.

There is no doubt that Andy Thorn is a novice manager, learning his trade.

What we do not know, is : -

how well we would have faired without the squad being decimated,
without the worn out players struggling with injuries (many, I am sure, we are unaware of),
what the moral must have been like at the start of the season
what Andy Thorn tried to do to overcome this, before being upstaged by the latest SISU stunt
how the youngsters have felt, being thrown into a moral-sapped team on a losing streak,
how many things the training staff have had to simultaneously work on to put right
the continual worry over the club being able to pay wages
and many many more....

There are many things wrong with our club (in the broadest sense), to blame one man is somewhat short-sighted, simplifying a complex set of events (to put it kindly).

We have no money, we run at a loss, our young players will be cherry-picked by other clubs with more hope. Would any established and effective manager come here, with no tools at his disposal? We are not only going to have to 'grow our own' players - we will have to do the same with the management as well.

How else do managers get experience, before they prove their worth? Should we invest the time in a rookie manager, then sack him for not getting it right first time, leaving another club to benefit from his experiences here?

Take a look at Bobby Robson's career as a manager - I think he had a similarly bad experience (at Fulham?), before establishing himself at Ipswich, and then we all know how great he became........

Yes, I came on here spitting feathers after the Peterboro game because I thought he'd gone too deep at 2-1 (since when can we hold a lead? We needed to push for a 3rd!) and got his subs wrong (Gael was chasing shadows 2nd half and Deegan, albeit one lacking fitness and form) should have come on sooner.

Most of us know the manager isn't perfect, but think he's done a darn good job considering the tools he's been given. I think that the difference that could have been made by having a "better" manager would not have been nearly enough to make a difference; and "experienced" managers make mistakes aplenty too, as we know only too well. Not to mention that these players have responded better to Thorn than I think they would most managers-as evidenced by the contrast between their performances under Boothroyd and Thorn last season (when Thorn inherited a side that was dropping like a stone), and by the way that compared to previous sides of greater ability and experience, they have grafted and tried.

Think it has been key to note that all season whenever we have gone in front we haven't gone out to get another goal and have usually tried to sit back on the lead we have and hold out.

True, but that's possibly been true of most City sides in recent years: it was certainly a "Hallmark" of the Coleman era!

It has often been cited on here that the 2-1 defeat at PALARSE was a pivotal moment in our season.
After we scored the game opened up. Juke had at least three chances to put us two up....one miss in particular was shocking...........as the game passed the 90 minute mark we were still leading......I dont think anyone in the ground foresaw we'd actually go on to LOSE.
It was a hammer blow, one from which many of the kids that night should not really have been exposed to.
The team were shattered at the end, barely had the strength to make the dressing room.
The vulnerability of a young team with a few half fit senior players was clear to see.
The writing on the wall.
The point is tho' we didn't exactly sit back.....we had chances, several and could and probably should have won easily.
