I ain't backing down in anything.

My opinion still stands. You disagree, that's your call and your in your right to on a opinion based topic.

But look at it from another way. There's calls for Beavon to be dropped and McNulty to be pushed forwards to enhance or chances of goals. Andreu to be put in because there is concerns we're lacking creativity. If everything is going so well why would some sections be looking to make changes.

To me we're yet to hit some attacking form and also true goal scoring form where we look dangerous on every attack.

Maybe people want Andreu in because from the stints that we've seen he looks to be a class above what we have, doesn't mean what we have wasn't good enough just that it could be better with the latest addition.

If you want a team that looks dangerous on every attack I think you're going to be disappointed watching league 2 football and need to be more realistic. The majority of our goals this season will come from opposition mistakes and players doing something out of the ordinary. You just don't find consistent dangerous attacking every week in L1 & L2.

As will the majority of goals we concede will come from defensive mix ups and goalkeeper errors, that's just life at the bottom, this goal scoring form that you talk of will not be seen in this division.

I'm very aware of what league 2 is all about, too much consistency there ain't at this level as I said in the Newport match thread.

I've watched a fare bit of L2 and non league football over the years and have been saying similar to what you've said all summer.

It's a physical direct approach from the majority of the sides in the league, and we look to be well equipped to go toe to toe.

Andreu does look a class player on the 45 mins we've seen of him, good technique, creative and looks good in tight spaces which will be invaluable at home this season as many will put 10 men behind the ball and look to counter or capitalise on a mistake.

Yes, we'll wrote I agree with that. Defensively we look organised and solid. Something we've lacked for a while and it's great to see.
Mcdonald looks a real capture, calm, composed and strong. Looks useful in the air too.

Like yourself early in the summer I did look into previous years to see what the league needs and what statistically suggests will get you up and your right. Defensively strong teams naturally do well.

I've only a few minor concerns at this stage as to how we will fare over the winter months but MR is in the early stages of getting the team to play how he sees fit to hopefully bounce back.

Early signs are good tho.

I'd like to reserve judgement too, even Luton lost 1-0 the week after they battered Yeovil into oblivion. It's still early days, and with 12 new signings, there are probably some things to iron out. For me, I want us to start scoring early, especially against the weaker teams of the division. We need to kill any momentum any team has asap.

Our defence will be our asset this year. Stokes was a starter when we were challenging for 1st under Mowbray, McDonald has got promoted and Grimmer and Willis have played their whole careers in L1/Championship. Then factor in Kelly and Doyle... I can't see us conceding many to be honest. Leadership and physicality isn't in short supply there!

Going forward, I hope Andreu, Jones and McNulty all surpass 10 goals and that's doable I feel. I remain optimistic, actually.

I've been thinking the same for a while. My only worry is when was the last time a CCFC team was solid and dependable at the back, I can't remember one. Even Robins' first time around we shipped loads of stupid late goals.

This is true, but at least this time around he's brought in his own players. Last time he had to make do with someone else's signings which may or may not have complimented the style he wanted to play.

I interpret MR's goal is to build a solid, cohesive team unit. Starting with a solid spine. An example of this, I think, is Stevenson. He is probably more skilful than Kelly and Doyle, as an individual but we start Kelly and Doyle, as experienced pros, who'll organise players around them, will get stuck in and give the ref an earache. Whilst I never seen him play last season, I imagine he's good enough to start for most teams at this level.

A hard fought 2-1 win. Not too many changes from last week to try and build some understanding in the group and also redeem themselves after Newport. Andreu must be nudging for a start though.

And Andreu seems to be the type of player with the ability to unlock defences. He just appears to have that little something extra that could turn a game.

I think signing him, if anyone was already in doubt, signalled huge intent on what this club wants to achieve this season. Really looking forward to seeing him this season.

This is one of those games that will help shape how we develop our season. We started brilliant then slipped up badly last week.
Win and get back on track immediately or lose, even draw and we will feel we are in for a long hard season again, just as we were believing this would be a promotion year.
So yes a win is really important here.

Leaving in about half an hour for this one.

In Coventry early afternoon. Sort out hotel and food. Get kids sorted. Then tonight show the young ones how to party :wacky:

Then time to get up on Saturday morning when I can only see two of everything. Get head straight. Get to Yeovil for what will be the icing on the cake for a great weekend :shifty:

They seem to be scoring for fun but also concede for fun as well. Be close I think with goals so I'm going for 3-2. Hopefully to us but can see this going either way.

I think these play 3-4-3, same as Blackburn and I believe Newport set up similar maybe a 3-5-2. These formations might cause us problems all year which is funny because we were so useless when we used them

Hopefully we can take advantage of them conceding a fair few, while we defend properly with no silly goals.

3-0 defeat. Dave Torpey, James Collins and that bloke we had on trail from Ireland to each score treble hattricks. Nopm brigade to implode.

I see we have another referee with L-plates on today. Only his 3rd league game.

I suppose this will be normal service now. Unlike last week when we had a Premier League ref and a lino who has done a World Cup Final.

I'm not arguing anything... my opinion is I feel we're yet to hit true goal scoring form. I don't feel we've been that huge a threat with every attack. Just my opinion of them 5 goals we scored. That's gonna change hopefully as we grow as a team and after a few games.

You differ in your opinion, that's football and it's fine with me.

Totally agree Steve not exactly scaring teams to death at present but I do think Andreu will start today, Beavon for all his work rate isnt looking like scoring at present and Jones needs to develop more to his game because he has become a marked man for the time being

Time to shake up the front 4 a bit. Maybe stick Hyam back in for Willis as well.

LOB
Grimmer Hyam McDonald Stokes
Doyle Kelly
Jones Andreu Nazon
McNulty

S: Burge, Willis, DKE, Stevenson, Vincenti, Beavon, Thomas

Edit: just realised thomas is injured. Stick Ponti on the bench.
