Just seen an interesting stat on twitter.

Someone has accumulated all individual player data available for xG underperformance from 17/18 until now. Essentially the worst finishers in the world, where there is xG data available.

Two of our former players, who’ve had spells with us since 17/18 appear in the bottom 50 finishers on the list. Can you guess who they are?

Hiwula and Bakayoko?

Luke Thomas as an outside guess

Gyokeres probably one of them and the other Godden?

Not going to bother guessing because I just looked it up. I'm surprised he even managed enough shots at goal to have a poor xg.

This xG isn’t exclusive to just his spell with us, but all clubs he’s played for from 17/18 till now.

There’s the bottom 50. COH statistically the 32nd worst finisher is most major leagues in that period. He’s scored 11 less than expected!

Maguire happy just to get a mention I reckon.
Always thought Bamford was an absolutely atrocious footballer. How he's played at the level he has, I have no idea.

COH scored 4 less than expected in our first champ season and 7 less than expected in the second. To be fair last season he did score 2 more than expected so does give credence to his finishing having improved when he came back from injury.

interesting reading.

in his only Championship season Biamou scored 3.3 goals less than expected @Sick Boy

McGoldrick is also on there.

Also statistically flawed, this punishes poor finishers who are great at getting chances. % of xg converted would probably be a better stat.
It's not statistically flawed, it's telling you who poor finishers are not penalising players for being poor finishers

It is.

Who’s the better finisher? A player who had 100 xg and scored 90 or a player who had 10 xg and scored 1? It’s obviously the first one, but since this stat is a simple subtraction it will rank the first guy “worse”.
