Society in general seems to be a lot angrier. The amount of ‘stickers’ I see up and down country with the Reform logo and/or ‘Stop The Boats’ is astounding. There were a few in the away end on Tuesday but even on holiday I seen some and in most train stations of clubs and all over England.

Perhaps it’s an age thing, but I don't remember this being the case in the 90s or 00s… if someone my senior could provide some insight, please do. Please note: I have no intention of making this remotely political, it’s just an observation.

Social media is just generally quite toxic. We seen how badly abused athletes and TV personalities can get it. For all the positives of social media, it can be a cesspit.

I just don't ever remember it being angry at the games growing up.
Light hearted and all in jest when it came to our own players. Of course you'd get the odd moan and groan, but nothing like what we see today.
Unhinged, borderline obsessiveness over certain players, once they've become the designated boo boys. It's why i try to stay off for long periods of time, social media is indeed a cesspit.

Even if the players that tend to get the most abuse leave this summer, you just think, who will be next to take the brunt of it. So tedious.
I think we are building quite a good team, it just needs a few tweaks, i fully believe we will get there eventually. They are definitely not 'useless'.

Exactly, Lampard had to choose between 2 poor strikers and a shit one.

I hope he gets the backing to off load the underperforming players and bring in his own choices.

the problem isn't just unlocking the best performances more it's also elevating the minimum level of the out of form performances.

imo when Grimes had a couple of flat games he was still 5.5 or 6/10, that is his minimum. when Wright is off it's 2 or 3, he looks non-league at times.

Yeah I can get that tbf.
I think Simms can have good games without scoring when he's up for it, but Wright seems to be all or nothing.

Anyone would, but we miss a striker like Gyokeres who would just bully and rough up centre backs all game and has a big impact even if he didn't get a goal.

I don’t think he has though. You can’t argue with his goals but outside of that all the day one complaints about attitude ... still stand.

I don't think it's bad attitude per se, I think he loses belief in himself, which ultimately ends up as a lack of determination and fight. He doesn't seem to have the heart when things are against him.

It's like O'Nein beat him in every duel, despite being smaller, less strong, and not as good at football as Wright, but he was absolutely up for it and backed himself in the fight. Wright wanted to win too, but he didn't back himself.

Obviously, I don't know the man, and I'm not a psychologist, but having watched him play for the last two years, that's what it looks like to me. It was the same in his first couple of months at the club. I don't believe he doesn't care or has a bad attitude.

The question is, do you live with that. Wright's an asset, no question. He's extremely talented and a guaranteed source of goals over a season, but you have to accept that you will have to carry him when he's not playing with confidence. Is it worth risking that when you have a game as huge as Tuesday's, or do you cash in for a lesser, but more consistent, player?

He’s simply not aggressive enough to play as a solo striker. Pulls out of tackles and headers all the time.
It looks like he’s scared to get hurt. His dive on Tuesday was shocking particularly as he’d got the ball past them and had an opportunity to shoot.

I've come off social media, I had a break from it before mate then went back on, found myself using fb less and less, same with twitter (never did shittok or Snapchat) but when your on there all you get is negativity, people posting videos thinking they are hilarious but they're not or another video of a knife attack posted.

Its a cesspit where people think they are hard abusing others y et would shit their pants if you confronted them, the world would be a happier place with out social

been “off” social media and the news for about three months now. Every 3 or 4 weeks or so i download instagram to check my messages as i live abroad and i always have people trying to contact me, but i avoid the news feed and stories etc. Then delete it again.

Avoid news apart from bbc championship page.

I honestly feel so much healthier. Stupid and ignorant. But healthier

If you were Tats or Eccles in fact any of the rest of the team who all put great performances in.You would definitely want to let him know your feeling. It a team game and IMHO the guy just doesn't seem to want to do his share of the work.If he wants to progress in the game he needs to look at the De Bruyne and Salah's see their efforts on regaining possision when they lose it not stand there with the o well attitude he seems to take.Me personatly iI would get rid

Agree, be gone.

I've said many times, I can forgive the lack of ability but I'll never forgive the lack of effort, that HAS to be a given, no question about it.

I don't buy into this lack of confidence thing and he's an asset when on form, for me you put it in 100% even if you're out of form.

Same goes for Simms.

I think if this was anything like the way it came across he's done. Don't see how you come back after that.

We've had year after year of people posting about problems in the dressing room and bust ups but the rest of the team essentially turning round and blaming Wright for not getting to Wembley immediately after a game, and saying he wasn't putting in any effort, is another level. How do you put that aside when everyone comes back for pre-season training?

Same here, would read the forum from afar but had a long social media break. Only have Twitter to follow the Cov page really, so i avoid all the other crap going on in the world, but even still if you go on there to pass comment on a match, all you come across is the same old negative people dragging the same players every week. So boring.
When we are at games we talk constructively about players and how the games have gone, then you come online and it's wild, even when we win, toxic.

I agree, but the original post didn’t make clear if it was anyone of any importance who had vented at him. I don’t think Haji’s career here would survive if Joe Edwards chewed him out after the game, but if it was just the guy from Surprise Shirts sending him an angry Twitter DM then he’ll probably be ok.

Too much lazy negative focus on Wright whilst the real issue in the semis was our defence with 3 of the 4 being at fault for goals. Imagine the stick Simms or Wright would have taken if it had been them that had given Ballard a free header and not Kitch.

I don't think many people are annoyed simply because Wright didn't play well and made mistakes, rather it was his lack of effort during both legs that has caused the backlash.
Van Erwijk and Kitching made crucial errors but they gave their all for the cause.

if Thomas would have scored that, we would have been creaming, I dont see it as a defensive mistake
Also maybe if Lampard would have brought Bidwell on for Da Silva as he was going to we would have had more presence in there
It was just one of those things - Lack of effort generally from Wright who on his day is unplayable. but when he cant be arsed he really is a waste of time . Very similar to simms, as we saw last season especially in the cup ,there is a hell of a player in there, we just rarely see it

Yeah, that was very puzzling. You felt he really would have got the better of O'Nein in that circumstance, but he didn't bust enough of a guy to make sure he won the ball

I don't see it as a deliberate lack of effort from Wright. I think he needs to be in a specific place mentally to perform and really struggles if he's not there. You could in the decisions he was making with taking duels, trying to beat players etc. that he just had no confidence.

what gets me with wright is he is quick, hes tall and hes strong. and the amount of times he doesnt win headers or hold up play, or even beat an aging CB frustrates me, plus hes 27, arguable entering his prime years.

if Frank can get the best out of him, and really, give him a position and stick to it and feed him correctly we could have really good player.

There was that moment in the box where they tangled and Onien gave the thumbs up to the linesman after he won the decision which was just wrong and the ref gave it anyway, you know your on a loser when you get those decisions against you, bit like Sakamoto's foul throws!

When will some understand, the lone striker role in our set up can be a thankless task. Got the attention of two CBs for most of the game and against a team with a low block not much opportunity to run into channels/run in behind and turn defence….both Wright and Simms strength. Yeah, both are tall but neither is what I’d class as a target man in the traditional sense. Wright is far better coming in from the left of a three, although he was immense against Sunderland in the league they were far more open due to early goal

Having said all that I’d imagine Wright might fancy a move to a top league somewhere and if so, so be it

He had a pretty nasty injury too. I've had that injury (albeit without the same level of care/physio Wright would get) and it bothered me for a long time afterwards. In fact I still feel it a couple of years later after exercise.
