Doing virtually nothing is Simms' speciality these daysI suspect it's because it's hard to believe that Frank would have kept picking a seriously unfit player. For all the criticism of Simms on here, surely we'd have stood more chance of making the final if he'd played. Haji looks on fire now and I bloody love the guy, but he did virtually nothing in those playoff games.

I think it's confidence, which obviously correlates with fitness. That Sunderland game I'm pretty sure his first goal was his first shot? And it was a pretty speculative one, from then on he just looked really confident and up for it.He put in 1 decent performance post his come back. So it was an outlier. Strachan spoke about this ages ago, some players can get away with not being fully fit but others need their fitness levels to be spot on.

Then sold for £30mill after the World CupIf we have a fit Haji for 46 games, he will score so many goals. Looks quick, strong and up for it. Couple those things with his clear ability in front of goal it could be a very big season for him

Sometimes I think he just doesn't have the belief. Definitely don't think it's about effort (that is a lazy criticism of most players imo).

When he plays as the main striker, he plays with more freedom because he can roam, create overloads and not be burdened with too much defensive responsibilities.
This season will be massive for him and he needs to get 20+ goals this season.

I went through the data in the summer and Haji had a stand out 2 month spell in 2023 and those perceptions stuck.
I don't feel silly because he is very good at LW and coming into the season, we didn't have a great depth but I've got no problems saying that now I want to see him as the ST.Yep, those people must feel rather silly now. Haji has always scored more goals as a striker than a LW for us.

It's not just his goals this year but I've really noticed his work rate & tracking back is consistently good.
Whether it's the coaching/Lampard or because it's a WC year, I don't care. Keep it up Haji!!
