As someone on here said before kick off, that team should have been good enough to win that match. As MR said, when players-who did need games tbf and everyone rotates-come banging on his door saying they should be selected then play like that, well, they can shut up now, can't they?

Yes, I don't disagree with that. However, if the players aren't performing, the manager is the one responsible for interviening. He didn't, for yet another time, get it done.

Correct, it should have been. If it weren't for the club being so badly depleted a few players there would have played their last for the side. He'll have no choice but to keep putting them on the bench-down to barely 11 players he trusts to start

That's the problem, our depth is so so bad. And then also the gap between our better few players like Vic, Gus and COH and the rest is also a chasm. But yes ideally that would be the last game for quite a few, but bet it isn't.

You see what McF’s absence has done to the defence. While we now also need help up front and in midfield I’d be prioritising the centre of defence. You just cannot concede so many soft goals and expect to get results.

Why the fuck are people blaming Robins, he made the right call giving some key plyyers a rest, its not his fault that the 11 he picked didnt turn up to win today. Yes he could have changed it earlier, but can you blame him for leaving it a little bit later so that its less minutes in the legs meaning more gas in the tank. Enough of this anti Robins millarcky he’s our best manager in most Cov fans lifetimes. To me this has Shown me why Robins doesnt change it earlier usually in the league, he doesnt have the talent to do so. The fringe players are not good enough. As I said earlier Waghorn, Moore, Kelly and Dabo have to be off in the summer, it hurts to say in regards for the latter 2 as they have both been great servants of this football club and given their all for the club, but we have surpassed them now, Moore and Waghorn less so, they’re shit end of. Now last of all lets get behind the team, bring on Burnley and lets give em a game. Play up sky blues! Fuck Sisu

Let’s be honest, we lacked a cutting edge until Tavares went off, but the major mistakes came from a back three that are all first team players and Moore who is supposed to be. If you had Fadz in there we’d have won 3-0 at least.

Desperately need a CB who can bring the same qualities he does. Everything else is secondary.

Robins thought that against a team 70 odd places lower than us we wouldn't have to play our 2 best players who had been run into the ground in the last couple of weeks. He was wrong but I doubt many fans would've played our strongest team either before the game.

His only mistake today was leaving Hamer too long to come on. The players massively let him down and I can't wait for a proper rebuild with championship quality players in the summer.

The year we went up from league 1 was a proper rebuild year to move on from our league 2 standard players. Godden,Dabo, Walsh, Ohare, Rose, Fadz, Marosi were all signed at the start of that season - we need something like that but on a bigger and better scale

I don't have an issue with the starting 11. I have an issue with the inability to react and make changes in a promptly manor when things are going to shit.

That part is entirely on him, and for that he takes a massive proportion of the blame.

Only other thing I would criticise him for is the reluctance to change to a back 4. In a lot of games this season our 3 CBs have no idea who they should be marking and at least one of them is effectively useless

If you start with 3 centre backs but still concede goals for fun against non league crap, something perhaps needs rethinking.

One positive.... Huddersfield lost as well which means we're both free on 4th round day to catch up with the missed game from the start of the season without putting further pressure on a depleted squad.

I've been signed up here for years as I used to live in Cov for a bit and am a Wrexham lad, I just wanted to state what a proper fun cup match it was and fuck you, David O'Day, a proper helmet.

Good luck to Cov for the rest of the season. I moved into Swan Lane, right next to Highfield Road as they were knocking it down, really sad. Would have loved to have gone to games whilst at Uni.

I miss walking home from the Campbell/Phoenix on Friday nights for the heavy metal nights, with a stop off next to Wgitefriars at that takeaway that used to do Indian spiced chicken burgers that would give me the shits for the whole weekend. Strutting down Far Gosford Street, popping to Costcutters for random tinnies, not knowing how much crime used to happen there. Good times.

I went back to Cov last year for one of my best mates wedding and what a lovely place it is now. Was hoping to pop to Brown's for a Kronenberg Blanc but times have changed haha.

Again, all the best to your club and fans but haha at Mr O'Day.

The morning after and that's still hard to take.

While many of the criticisms of Robins and the players are valid that result has been two transfer windows in the making due to the owners not backing Robins.

I've said for a long time that we'd be ok this season but it would really hit us next season and stand by that and expect us to be deep in a relegation scrap unless something changes.

To be honest, whilst the owner investment criticism is always valid to the bigger picture, I think it’s a stretch to blame yesterday on that. Without any shadow of a doubt that team that was put out yesterday should be able to dispatch a non-league team at home. No questions. 7 of the starting 11 have featured heavily in the league for us this season. One is our club captain and the other was our first choice keeper last season. One of the other two lasted 30 minutes before a horrible injury forced a change to bring on our best player. The blame lies initially on the players shoulders for a truly dire display, and then Robins’ for his refusal to do anything about it until it’s too late.

I agree about Robins being too late to make changes yesterday, but our squad has been paper thin for ages and desperately needs strengthening.
Yes, some of the deadwood was brought here by him, but every club gets signings wrong, they move players on, they sometimes have to pay up contracts or part pay up contracts to incentivise players to leave but with us it's like that's it now, you're stuck with these players, get onwith it.

The overhaul should have started last January, 2 windows ago, and been a gradual process, instead we're left needing a massive rebuild.
You simply can't run a football club the way our owners do, and for all his faults, and yesterday was the low point of his tenure for me, Robins has massively overachieved in difficult, and at times, ridiculous circumstances.

I agree completely. Think we see it the same way I just don’t blame yesterdays result on that personally. It was a catalogue of individual (player and manager) mistakes. I also agree on the low point of his tenure. He’ll have plenty of credit with me (and 99% of sane fans) to navigate a tricky run which will probably see us pick up few points. But yesterday was an embarrassment and he absolutely has to reflect on his capacity to make changes at more effective times.

Sorry I don’t get this bollocks about players needing a rest after a 4 week World Cup break. Premier league players that featured in the World Cup didn’t get that rest and still featured in FA Cup games yesterday. I’m sick of hearing about it absolute nonsense.

I think the only point we may disagree on slightly is that yes, we should have had enough, but I think it exposed how poor we are beyond the first 11. As several players were piss poor, but those players shouldn't be here, which goes back to my point, but yeah, I agree with most of what you're saying.
I just had a look at our league game from around this time last year, we beat Peterboro 4-1.

Our bench, which a lot were saying then needed strengthening, was Moore, Jodi, Fadz, Eccles, Waghorn, Walker and Vik.

We've lost the strength from that bench but have added more dross and now also been hit by 2 or 3 key injuries. The manager needs some support!

I think you almost answered your own question. The threadbare squad, and lack of appropriate depth coupled with injuries has totally hindered him. We saw how limited Tavares looked up front with Waghorn. Some of those available on the bench during Championship games cannot help the team in a positive way at the moment (particularly in the absence of O'Hare, Godden, Eccles and Fadz). If things are going wrong with the starting 11, he has nowhere to turn. Cuffy in for Dabo will help hugely (albeit the lad is young and only a temporary solution).

Only thing that slightly concerns me about pushing a broom through the squad is we lose our identity. A number of the fringe players are good enough to do a job if there is only one or two of them on the pitch with a strong spine. Reforming a lot of new players in to a team with the same style takes time. I think a lot of our success has come from management and team stability. I'd like us to get rid of the players who never play or have obviously gone past it but keep the core the same.

Agree to an extent but also there are plenty of times this season he has left Palmer on the bench until the closing minutes and he has more than enough ability to change a game. Many times when Allen has been ineffective he has waited until the very last minute to gamble. At Sheffield United we’re 3-1 down and Egan gets sent off at 77 minutes. He waits until 87 minutes to bring Tavares on for Panzo and go four at the back. Why wait until then? What is the point?

Yes, in a game that was up there with our best performances in years against the in form team in the league.

In the last 7, using your example, we have 6 points from 6 league games and an FA Cup defeat. Based on that logic, with 21 games left we are averaging a point a game, would leave us on 56. 56 points doesn’t get relegated.

However if we extend our last 7 games to our last 10 games, we have 15 points. 1.5 pts a game would leave us with 66 pts there or there abouts.

So, to conclude, you can shove your stats bollocks up your arse when you choose a window to fit your narrative.

Love your positivity but I'll be happy to reply again in 2 weeks when we have failed to win in another 2 games.

We've lost O'Hare and McFadzean and have around 12/13 players actually fit. It is going to get a lot worse than the last 7 games.

Robins can't win, most 'experts' on here are saying weekly he doesn't make subs early enough or at all, we have a game against non league opposition, he says to the fringe players, heres your chance go and have a good game and show me what you can do and absolutely NON of the fringe players showed up all they did show is why they are feckin lucky to even be a fringe player, in Robins mind he is probably thinking these players should be good enough and professional enough to be able to outclass the non league mob!
At half time they must have recieved an almighty rocket and told they had 15 mins or so to turn it around and obviously they all listened and were dreaming about how they could spend their next over inflated wage packet and fucked it up even more.
Robins was protecting his team for further things to come in the league, bearing in mind that our next fixture was playing against the league leaders, a difficult task in hand and because we had played 3 or 4 games in quick succesion some players could have a well deserved break which obviously backfired due to most of the useless fuckers on the pitch, now if he had played the likes of Vik (who was carrying a knock, probably the dead leg he got in the previous game, Hamer and co and they had got injured just imagine what the experts would be saying then!! Special mention to Moore who's twin brother must be playing now instead of the real one!

Fair summary IMO -

"A National League club, even one with Disney financing, takes its place in this year’s fourth round draw. Now, does that actually count as a giantkilling?

Coventry, a club in limbo with a takeover “imminent” since November, have no such access to funding."

Because Tavares is a number and Robins either sees him in training or gets reports sent to him and they are probably saying he isn't very good as we seen before his injury, if he hadn't scored 'that' goal I doubt he would still even be here, but I do agree about Palmer although as much as I hate to say it Allen has slightly more discipline than Palmer even though he can't tackle
