1. We would have ample time to strengthen this season, just as we did last year with Grimes in January etc. And the value of the fee isn’t limited to this season of course.
2. That’s the risk you take - the value of your asset can go up and down etc
3. While there is obviously risk involved here too, this is the argument I have the most time for. But when the same people making it are also whining how ‘the squad doesn’t stand a chance unless we sign four more players’ etc then can you really factor in the opportunity cost of promotion?

Value will only go up for this player.

Im reading Swiss Ramble actually.

Clarke only cost £1m and Broadhead £1.5m didn't they? Hardly that significant spend.

The wage bill was huge.

£19m in League one promotion season and £45m in the Championship promotion season which I believe was the third highest

In L1 they lost £19m in the promotions season

You have to sell. Bid 12m for Hamer on the back of it and use 8m to strengthen. Football is a funny old game. You can't aford at this level to wait and potentially risk injury etc. 20m now and 10% sell on would be very good business. I'm sure frank could tap up Chelsea for a midfielder on loan too....

There’s someone in another thread who says that with the right encouragement from the fans, Norman Bassette will be a £30 million player.

I think Rudoni is great but this isn’t crypto, players can have underwhelming seasons, they can get injured, they can get their heads turned….all of which can knock a player’s value (Ben Sheaf did all three!)

Flipping Rudoni to buy Hamer is by far the funniest and best outcome, would absolutely love to see it.

Leads me to think I should just give into my insomnia and post the whackiest stuff I can think of. Even then I wouldn’t have come up with selling Rudoni to bring back Gus Hamburgler

If you want to go for promotion you don't sell your best players, simple. Rudoni is worth 10-15 goals, 10-15 assists, where is that going to come from. We sold Gus for 15million yet we have never replaced him even if we spent 30 million because he was unique, as is Rudoni. Would we have got promoted if we had Gus last season? Possibly yes.
King wants us in the premier, he is a business person not a football person and to get promotion you have to invest, must invest, you cannot do it by wheeling and dealing. If we do not have money and King doesn't want to invest his own money you are leaving yourself at the mercy of the gods. However, if you want success, like Brum and Wrexham, you must invest or sell up.

Just spit-balling here.

There's an assumption (from me and likely others) that Lampard wants to keep Rudoni. Seems an obvious view as he's been very good. But maybe, just maybe, he doesn't fit Frank's tactical plan - perhaps any sale would be with his blessing if it means a different type of player is then brought in. We always assume managers want to keep good players, but look at PSG's manager trying to offload one of the world's best in Donnarumma just because he doesn't tactically suit.

I'm not sure how a major contributor to the plan working leaving would help

Oh, I totally agree, he's fast becoming / already become our standout player. Just an alternate view, that's all.

Southampton looking to sell Smallbone as he’s into the last year of his contract. 15 million and Smallbone.

Whenever I've seen him play he's been excellent. Maybe they've got the hump as he won't sign a new contract?
