Planned relegation?
I very much doubt it...
Cheaper wages.
Main crux of the rent argument. (Average league one rent)
Big fish in a small pond.
Better chance of success with the budget- increase attendances- fans more supportive on all SISU decisions, as they are seeing success on the pitch.
With this budget still in this championship this season. We would have signed 3-4 players and be in a relegation battle.
... And we had o many chances to get ourselves out of the relegation zone, we didn't.
Pitfalls?
Your letting a good conspiracy get in the way of facts.
What you forgot; loss in revenue, so can't make up on investment.
How much revenue do think we have lost?
I can only think of TV money.
Their plan back fired a little by the dodgy start,
However if they were in the top two from the start of the season then they would have reasonably expected crowds of 20k.
This would have offset some of the loss from tv sponsorship.
Our biggest cost was wages the relegation allowed most of the highest earners to go.
New signings were free transfers on league one wages.
Again this reduction in wages would far out weigh the drop in tv rights.
Sorry don, I don't buy it. The idea was to cut the wage bill and hope to just stay up.
Lost £4m in TV and premier league money and down about £1.5 on ticket sales because we're 4k down on the average crowds.
That's before you start thinking about reduced shirt sales, programmes, sponsorship deals etc.
The telegraph estimated that our player wage bill was about £5.5m last season, this season the 'player budget' is rumoured to be about £4m.
Planned relegation?
Sounds a bit extreme when you say it but why didn't they back Thorn to keep us up but they have backed Robins to get us up?
Getting relegated weren't a bad thing for us, we've got rid of Cranie and Clingan, high earners who were shit, or just not worth the money they were on, and we've been able to get more players with equal, or better quality, the only place we'd have to improve is winger(s), a CB, a LB & possibly a GK to compete at Championship level (mid table).
Wages wise. Cranie, Clingan, Keogh, Platt, Fatswood.
Hussey. ( I think they planned for Wood to go)
Jukes wages. Herman.
Norwood and Nimely loan wages.
Replaced with free transfers and loaners on league one wages.
Not just that, we've had the chance to rebuild ourselves, which we've done. We needed to get Cranie and Clingan off the wage bill, Keogh, no, Platt, YES! Waste of money, Eastwood, definitely! Herman, waste of space, Juke, well, we sold him, but Norwood and Nimely, I don't think we made contributions to their loans...
I think it's safe to say, the old 'RICOH' acronym will probably be true, we have got quality and quantity in most areas, we've got a good manager, who knows what he is doing, and we're on the up as a club. I don't think anyone would plan 'relegation', but last year, the ownership didn't back the mnager either because of: no trust of the manger, or didn't have the funds to sign good Champ players.
