And another reason I wouldn't swap it...all my mates and work colleagues know I'm a Cov fan.

As someone who lives nowhere near Cov, you don't know how great it's been since, telling people about the day with them all genuinely chuffed for me and Cov.

Made a massive difference from the normal Monday morning convo...'I see your lot lost again this weekend against [insert any shit league team here]. Yep, League 2 for us next season'.

Not a chance. Memories are made of days like that sunny Sunday. One particularly deafening rendition of "In our Coventry homes", not long after Oxford scored, gave me goose bumps and nearly had me in tears. Magnificent support. A perfect day.

I wouldn't swap for the.simple reason that we would probably have been relegated next year in any case. It was a great day out. However I would swap it for winning a playoff final at Wembley. The only way that will happen is under new owners.

Difficult one the day was one to remember for years, but relegation to the division just one step from non league with these owners ?? If i could guarantee sisu gone but stay up I'd perhaps plump for that but I have 1987 to remember so I can understand younger fans picking the Wembley experience.

I'm gobsmacked at the apparent favour of sunny day out at Wembley over remote 'stability' of league 1 status. It's all hypothetical of course but if the wish were granted and it went to a vote, I'd be horrified at the outcome, regardless of reasons.
All of a sudden the prospect of 'fan ownership' leaves me a little worried.

Not a chance. Never seen us win anything in my lifetime, so it was special. It was the perfect day. It should also help put to bed this myth that the team always lets us down on the big stage/when there's a big attendance. A real culture-breaker.

For those that would swap would you be happy just finishing surviving in league one for infinity? Of course not, it's a stupid question. April 2nd was a unique occasion. Since when did sisu start giving a shit about anything other than breaking even?

Great day but staying in league 1 every time.
Stuck in league 2 for at least the next 12 months will show you why.
It's all about getting up the league not days out surely ?
One day out at Wembley and now a whole year slumming in league 2 grounds playing bullying unskilled football. Nope

i dunno if i would choose checkatrade over league 1 survival but i do know that the 16-17 season will go down as one of the most memorable in terms of happy memories.

I’m sure you’re right about the horrors of an extended stay in League 2. But that day at Wembley is the ONLY little bit of glory I’ve been able to share with the people that matter to me over the last few decades. If you wanted to take that memory away from me, I’m afraid you’d need to offer more than the prospect of another season playing against the likes of Oldham and Shrewsbury. I’ll settle for Cambridge and Notts County.

Anyway, given that the Premier League is now looking nearly impossible, the Championship is the best we can aim at in the next few years. Dropping down to the 4th tier at least gives us the prospect of TWO enjoyable promotions to get there, rather than one! A desperate way to look at it I know, but the situation is so bleak you’ve got to look for positives

There's too much future context missing for me to give up the Cup final. I'd never been to Wembley, I'd never stood in unison with 43,000 Coventry fans, I'd not seen us win anything for 30 years. To give that up just to still be in L1 vs L2 - well it's not enough. However if for example you said that if we'd avoided relegation we'd be in the League 1 play offs next season I'd be much more tempted or that it would be back to back relegations and out of the FL, then of course I'd swap it.

no , it wasn't one day , it was a run of wins , . the squad did well and got the reward, the one thing ive learnt of late is you cant pre-empt anything with ccfc as you never know who will be gone , who will come in , who will the manager be , Wembley was the best advert for the potential of this club and the worst advert for our owners , the supporters deserved that day and all that went with it

No wouldn't swap it had always said to my oldest son that we would only go to Wembley to watch anything until after we had watched the sky blues there the same as my dad had said to me all those years ago in the 80's.

To see my five year old sons face on the day was worth all the relegations and that my mum and dad could be there and my brother travelled and surprised us all on the day made it better.

He still talks of his Wembley day and has decided the sky blues are his team not the royal blues as his other grandad wanted.

Now all we need is Sisu to push off

No wouldn't swap. Great day that represented our potential under Robins. D2 will give us the opportunity to face up to the reality and rebuild. I'm looking forward to next season, and maybe even another visit to Wembley in the play-offs, although in such a situation, I'd gladly give it a miss for automatic promotion.

Up the divisions by 2 and go back a few years and this could have been posted when we got relegated from the Premier League.

Under normal circumstances it would always be L1 but the tricky part here is would it have just been putting off relegation by 12 months. There's little to suggest there would have been a sudden turnaround.

That wasn't a condition set in the question though, was it?
I feel pretty sure some posters would be happy to trade six straight defeats in the Lg 2 campaign for a family day out at Legoland if it was on the table.

No, for all the reasons already stated.
I have actually got to the stage where I don't care as much as I did about what division we are in. Since Wembley in 87 we have spent most of the time in the bottom 8 of any division we're in and League One didn't feel much different from the Championship. For most of my life I have kind of grouped the teams in the bottom two divisions together in my mind, so I won't see it as different just further to climb, I know.
Another influence is working in Wolverhampton during the 80s. They fell though all the leagues but once they turned it around they climbed again and Wolves fans had a blast (like our old timers did in the 60s).
The trick is to turn it around and maybe Wembley gives us hope which can inspire players and fans.
If not, we were sinking anyway and staying up this season would only be a stay of execution.
So, I wouldn't swap it for anything.

No but it was as wildly hypothetical. It's a massively personal thing I suppose, I also hope it can act as a catalyst for a change in fortunes.

Spot on. With our current owners, relegation down the leagues is our only real prospect. Given the gross mis-management of the club, it was a minor miracle we managed to put a cup run together and actually lift it. I'd say the chances of doing that again are pretty slim.
