From what I made of our attacking performance against Portsmouth, yes.
Anyway, he's doing bugger all at the moment .

Why don't we get Ian Wallace, Dion Dublin & Mick Quinn back too!

Because they're all old and retired!

Yes I'm aware you're being flippant, but I think the op is a genuine question.

We're only one level beneath them, they clearly don't fancy him at present and he needs game time in familiar surroundings and where he has a rapport with the place. They have him on a 4 year deal and maybe he needs to prove he can do it at a level closer rather than the current two steps up (they may also be in this league next year). I think it makes perfect sense, but the real question is whether he'd come. Would his pride allow it so soon and perhaps coming back could look like failure. I imagine come January you'll see him loaned to our league but not us - and what's the betting he scores against us?!

Yes I would, as it would be another forward ( aside from Chaplin) who would understand that to form an effective partnership, they need to be closer to JCH and work off of him.

I think by the time the January transfer window opens, he will be overweight and unfit

Yes please. Chances other strikers have missed hed have at least 5-6 goals by now minimum. Was scoring harder chances last season.

Or if Salford City offer him mega money, he will probably go there

He's only played about 2.5 hours football hasn't he. Would depend on his match fitness and Robins assessment of how disruptive it would be given the way he left.

Not to mention can't happen till January and hopefully are own players are scoring by then.

Ideally we want to progress with our own players we signed with the money we sold him for. If we did get him back on loan that’s an admission our recruitment hasn’t been good enough

Dion Dublin played very well in the Liam Miller memorial match for the man Utd legends game got the winning penalty in the shoot out. He only played for the second half but he was in incredible shape for a 49yr old

Just to show we are still famous - extract from BBC Napoli v Liverpool game tonight!

'Napoli may or may not have modeled (BBC spelling!) their home kit on Coventry City.'

Tenuous link to Marc McNulty - he should be begging to come back to such a famous club!

To the question: No
We have a capable guy in Chaplin who will come good from what I've seen. Mc.Nulty you may recall couldn't hit a barn door initially. He scored a cracking header and then found his scoring boots beyond a dozen games in along with a much improving and settled side.
...Get set for a repeat season.

He’s a confidence player. Coming back here his confidence would probably be right up but I wouldn’t loan him in. If we could pick him up for a fair fee it would work but I wouldn’t loan him in. We have plenty of younger strikers to develop and I don’t think we’re going to be in a relegation battle so there is no point upsetting team dynamic and spendings money for a short loan.

Would I take back a player who got us 28 goals last season into a team that's struggling to score - let me think

Maybe we should have spent 200k on increasing his wages instead of buying Bakayoko.

I love McNulty but No.

Everyone overlooks McNulty took 2/3 months to start scoring with us and that was after playing non-stop.

If he signed in January he wouldn’t score goals until March/April and I’m not sure we could afford to play him constantly without scoring at that stage in the season.

Secondly - we need to move on. We offered him a new contract and he wanted to badly sign Reading’s. Everyone on here was spouting ‘you would go too to quadruple your wages’ - so what makes everyone so sure we could afford to pay a significant amount of McNulty’s enormous wages anyway???

Thirdly, I’m very confident Chaplin will come good. He’s constantly in the right positions, his movement and link up play is excellent, it’s just getting the cobwebs off his finishing boots that needs sorting - just like we had to endure and wait with McNulty. I remember the dogs abuse McNulty got after Chesterfield Away when we drew 0-0 and he missed three good chances. Middle aged losers ringing up CWR shouting down the phone that he was fat, useless, couldn’t finish a Mars bar and that he would be lucky to hit double figures...

Give Chaplin a proper chance and let the wanker brigade ring up Clive and tell him how he can’t hit a barn door. 8 months time and they’ll be crying down the phone to our beloved Clive that Chaplin’s the best striker they’ve seen in all their time of going up the City.

Will never happen so why ask. Perhaps we could ask Dublin to take the season off selling houses to return as well or see if Carl Baker is available.
Hes gone so lets get over it and move on

And he still wouldn't have turned down Championship football.

An extra 4,000 a week still wouldn't have matched what he is on at Reading.
