A good number of our former managers are currently out of work. I know it is unlikely that we would approach managers that we have in the past sacked (and it is doubtful whether they would want to return) however desperate times call for desperate measures and honestly I think a number of them would be preferable to Thorn. Of our former managers I think Gould, McAllister, Coleman, Dowie, Reid and Boothroyd are all on the market. Personally I think Gould has been out of the game for too long, it would be too soon for Boothroyd to return and McAllister and Reid were particularly poor managers who are at least as bad as Thorn. However I honestly think Dowie or Coleman (an under-rated manager in my opinion) would be an improvement on Thorn and should they be asked back I wouldn't have any complaints. Would anyone else have any of our ex managers back in the present dire circumstances??

The more you look at Coleman though the more of a failure he becomes imo. Under Coleman we had Westwood, Dann, Fox, Tabb, Gunnarsson, Best, Mifsud, Henderson, Ward all at the club at a similar time and he still never managed to finish ahead of 17th?

Now this may surprise certain people but I actually think most of them are even worse than Thorn. The only time I gave up as a fan was when the hapless Gould was around - slightly deranged in my view. Coleman out of a job? Good. Boothroyd is Gould in disguise and McCallister is never cut out for management.
Dowie? I would say perhaps as short term motivation seems an odd strength of his.
I wish Wolves would just sack McCarthy and we had a serious board to pay real management wages.

I left off Nilsson as I don't think he would realistically come back as he has gone on to bigger and better things since he left us. I still remember his season in charge, all was going well until Jim Smith joined half way through the season and we slumped from play-off certs to mid-table. Arguably we have never recovered. Was that the decision which ultimately wrecked our club?

Also I hope one day the Eric Black fixation will stop. Yes he did well and no he didn't deserve to be sacked but subsequent events have suggested he is happier as a number 2. Suppose unless we get a successful manager we will constantly be reminded of Eric Black, it could be a long wait until his name isn't mentioned...

Fair point, we should have done better however he did sign most of these players so was a good judge of a player. Remember Henderson was only on loan briefly and he was forced to sell Tabb. I don't understand why Coleman refused to play Ward, clearly they didn't get on personally. However I think he was the best of a bad bunch and is a far superior manager to Thorn.

CORRECTION, he signed those players on Thorns recommendation after he scouted them.

The only one I'd take back is Black, the rest have been abject failures. I rate Thorn miles above the lot.

I'd take Sexton or George and John back, but not Don. He was another terrible long-ball merchant. Thorn is George and John to Boothroyds Don Mackay!

Well the way we are currently going is only pointing to one outcome - certain relegation and probably bottom place. I appreciate we have no money at present but surely we still have to hope that we can stay up. Surely it is worth rolling the dice before it is too late as the current outlook is dreadful. With your attitude we would never change anything.

Oh dear I almost agree again. I certainly am aghast that anyone would give time for Coleman. I blame him for the mess we are in. He spent the SISU cash on complete rubbish and was abject tactically. Ransom summed it up when he said he could have gone for someone like Neil Warnock to get promotion but Coleman represented the long-term vision. Yeah long-term misery.

Never go back, if there was to be a change of manager look forward, it's a modern game with modern ideas. Even the Liverpool lot are starting to question King Kenny
