For me he already is, with all the off field shit, he has worked miracles. Football is a different game to before, not sure anybody could gave achieved what he has done.

With all the off field bollocks he’s had to contend with in the last few years, to be where we are now, he is at least in the conversation .

For anyone born after '87 he's the best by a fucking mile.

He's an absolute genuine club legend.

If he got us promoted he'd certainly be our best ever. This season in particular I've been impressed how we've always found a way, O'Hare injured, we're fucked, all our AMs injured, we're fucked, now Sheaf injured, again I'm thinking we're fucked, but we always find a way. I'm assuming it's just to do with our identity, how we play, so to an extent it doesn't matter too much who plays, outside of Hamer and Vik who are absolutely vital.

My head says Jimmy Hill because he had a profound influence on the club, the city, and football itself.

My heart says Jimmy Hill because he had a profound influence on the club, the city, and football itself.

OK , how about we settle for him being up there ? Because however we spin it, it would be a remarkable achievement

Mark Robins was made for us and has delivered time after time. We know this yet still is not appreciated by some.
what do you want that he hasn’t delivered?

Not really - if he took us from bottom to top, that in itself is not a common feat.

We also have to acknowledge that hill won 2 promotions with coventry , would be 3 for Robins if promoted

He'd be up there for sure, mainly because of the handicap of owners. As said, impossible to compare across eras, Hill was backed by a chairman but did change the entire culture, Sillett changed us from permanent relegation battlers to major trophy winners and regular competitors, Harry Storer transformed the club and was just stopped from taking us on by the war.

At the moment it's easy to say Sillett and Hill are out there just because of achievement. Robins going up would indeed be astonishing really - if he won the FA Cup he'd be the greatest by far

Didn't Robins change the culture here? Robins has had so much to deal with compared to hill and sillett

He's won 3 trophies here ?

We're now at the point where only a small number of our support can remember the Hill era.
Even those who can remember the success of Sillett and Curtis are in decline so for a large section of our support the Robins years have been as good as it's e er been and they'll consider him the greatest - and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but as Grendel said, impossible to measure really.

They're not exactly major trophies!

I'm not denying Robins has done an astounding job, what he hasn't done is have the impact across football that Hill had!

Hill was way before my time but his success was apparently well backed:

"Backed by an injection of cash from Derrick Robins, Hill led Coventry to the Third and Second Division championships in 1964 and 1967 respectively, taking them to the top division"

Robins certainly hasn't had that. Not to mention having to deal with playing away from Coventry.

I'm unsure of the point made then , should Robins get us promoted he will have 1 more promotion than Hill whilst having to deal with far worse circumstances

uBut he didn't introduce a number of innovations that transformed not just CCFC, but football across the country.

OK, what are the innovations that transformed coventry , I'm intrigued

OK so I looked and many of the innovations don't really have anything to do with managerial ability .. they were great for the club though and more something you'd see from a chairman

Ofcourse Hill is an iconic figure at ccfc

Born in 77 was there in 87 but I think being that bit older this is hitting different and I don't know why, the only thing I can put it on is that is far far from expected and yes 1987 was the same but the journey from here to now is something special

The fact is robins would have failed at tbe first hurdle which is why you can’t actually compare - and you can’t compare anyone who managed the club through the 70’s and early 80’s either when the club was falling apart after the US debacle and the all seater catastrophic stadium
