That's The Ricoh, according to Radio 5 Live's Seth Bennett just now on the World Football Phone In, when asked to name the worst stadium in his continent.

He says "I've been there twice this season, and there is just no atmosphere...you go in, and it's like a shopping mall or something..."

Good to know we are still getting noticed

Edit: thinking about it, the worse thing was that my ears pricked up as they asked him the question, and I froze in anticipation of it being us that he said. It was inevitable really, wasn't it? About 02:10 on "Listen Again" via the iplayer if anyone wants a "Laugh? It's that or cry!" moment.

1, Coventry have undoubtedly one of the finest stadiums in Britain. On matchdays, however, the atmosphere can be lacking.

He's done 3 away games this season, HH...Blues/Brighton & Reading...he's going to Soton though....

Its a shit show with a shit presenter!

I've been to numerous grounds over the past five years that have had equal or worse atmosphere.

Barnsley
Reading
Hull (this season)

It really depends on what day you go!
Like Birmingham away
And peterborough both fans created no noise.

There is no doubt about it, the Ricoh is up with the best in the Country and Europe.
The facilities are second to non.
I don't see many stadiums that can boast a casino, various restaurants and bars, a hotel with pitch view! An Auditorium and exhibition hall!

Also the actually stadium is fantastic, again not many boast a concourse our size.

If we ever got back to the big time, the ricoh would be rocking!

If we are successful in ANY league, the Ricoh would be rocking.

And that is what we have to hope happens next season....we have a period of reflection on this season's debacle (which seems to be now)...and then there will come a point when we all (including players/management/fans) will have to clean the slate and look forward to next season when we all start on 0 points (assuming we don't go bust).

Regardless of who owns us that is what we will have to do before the start of the next season...but there is nothing wrong in dissecting this season...if fact ignoring the failings will only make it more likely that next season is another of underachieving/failure.

So to those who criticise those who are trying to highlight the weaknesses, please consider that those who bury their heads in the sand/display blind faith in all that is said/heard may be storing longer term issues for us all...it doesn't make anyone a 'better' fan by sticking their fingers in their ears, shutting their eyes and shouting out 'LA LA LA LA LA LA LA'......

I wonder why there is no atmosphere.....
We are an unsuccessful club, and there's a freaking gap between the pitch and the stands! Why the fuck did they put that there?!
One of the major flaws of the olympic stadium bids for football clubs is that there's a gap between the stands and the pitch!

Agree totally pusbccfc - as a corporate/entertainment complex the Ricoh is more attractive than many of the big boys in the Prem including Man U Chelsea et al - maybe just maybe we will eventually own the lot (come on GH)

As an example of something unique to CCFC (compared to other clubs maybe) for a much improved match day experience I have transferred over to the Legends Stand recently from Block 20 and am mightily impressed with the sheer comfort and civilised ambience compared to my previous location.

At first I thought maybe it would be a tad too expensive for an old git OAP but worked out at just an extra £11 per month or under £6 per game.

The Legends Lounge is sumptuous, seating is extremely comfortable and what a pleasure it is not to be in the middle of a truly unbelievable stampede to use the gents at half time from my previous position.

Being an old git I can just about recognise the ex City players from yesteryear that regularly frequent the facility and the whole atmosphere suits my long association with the club with plenty of like minded fans to talk to and wallow in further nostalgia when the guest speakers are invited to say a few words. (last week it was Barry Powell, week before the "Flying Postman" - John Williams) big Cyrille was there also - he looks fit enough to play NOW !!!

Little perks like a complementary matchday programme, team sheet, coffee/tea at half time etc complete the very enjoyable experience and I am so glad I made the move.

I wonder if any other clubs operate the same kind of facility within a comparable level of excellence as CCFC

And yes I have renewed my ST for next year in the Legends (.....Nurse ....) having accepted the real inevitability of 3rd Division football next season but hey, after 48 years it's a bloody strong habit to break

No I wonder why the fans (a) dont turn up in numbers (b) dont get excited too often ............ wouldnt have anything to do with the problems and lack of success at the club would it by any chance ? Not actually down to the stadium perhaps?. There have been times when the atmosphere has been there - but the fans over the years of going there have been turning up believing in defeat and crisis rather than success and prospering. Is it any wonder the atmosphere is half hearted the whole damn set up at CCFC is exactly that.

Seth sorry pal - the facilities are first class no way can it be the worst stadium around. The atmosphere is from 10 years of failure what do you expect !:facepalm::facepalm:

MAtchday atmosphere yes it can lack something at times, however now I sit nearer to block 15 I find those occassions less and less.

My work had their mid year sales conference and Xmas party at the Ricoh last year. Therefore there were plenty of people from around the country, Man U, Man City, Arsenal Chelsea fans etc and to a man they were all shocked at how good the stadium is, therefore the opinions of a fella on the radio, meh.

I wouldn't say it was the worst. I really don't think it helps that they sell the away ticket from the furthest block first so the away fans end up being miles away from the home fans. I would like to see them to selling away tickets from the nearest block (12?). At least you might get a bit of banter going.

I've hearD us in the past-I think Cobi got a mention once, and they spoke about the tragic life that is Nii Lamptey's once too. Annoyed the hell out of me that it was always "former Norwich and Man C striker Darren Huckerby" when he was rIpping it up in the USA!

The biggest problem with the Ricoh is its basically a 3 sided stadium - the 'Lloyds' stand is so poorly designed (for the benefit of corporates/Press) that getting any real atmosphere is near impossible.
Whoever designed that stand needs shooting, a traditional bowl shape a la St Marys, or Reading would have been much better [especially if a smaller say 27k capacity.)
